WEATHER VANES

Thank goodness the wings n the duck weather vane don't spin, it would be non stop duck bombardment if they did.

Great post Scott. This is a fun topic, those are interesting, and I can see why weather vanes would be a good hobby.

not the best picture- but this guy put up a new building last year- on the way to my parent's place

the front one is a double barrel shotgun- the one in the back is a bird dog

Scott-

Thanks for posting those photos. I am hoping to begin building a workshop in the next year or so and plan to put a weather vane on the roof, perhaps on a cupola. Something duck hunting related would be very appropriate. Ultimately, I would like to make it myself. These give inspiration and are just plain cool.

Chad/All, I have pictures of about a dozen others that I can send to emails if you PM me. Just didn't think management would go for the fish, and other boat designs on this forum.

Elmer Crowell made many very good hand carved duck, goose and Brant weather vanes. I've also seen WV's made with wood and copper. The all copper ones get a great patina. The new folk art section of the Butler Museum of American Art will show case some WV's, as well as many wood carvings.
