What's up with photobucket lately?

They suck!

They keep messing with the format, and frankly it's not better. I've had A LOT of problems with my computer locking up on their site lately(which sucks when you are pulling links to post something and you have to close everything and start over). Now they screwed up the IMG codes with a bunch of extra "stuff" on there that you have to delete (or just leave it in your post like I see many doing).

I've been looking for an alternate hosting site for over a year, but I hadn't found one that had the right IMG codes for the forum plus an automatic resizer. Anyone have suggestions?

Chuck,
It seems that in their attempt to please everyone, they have run into some major problems. I, too, experienced the same frustrating levels that you went though for a while. Now they seem to have had a problem with just the IMG mode. When you are using it the JPEG mode is also there. Just like you mentioned on your post, if you don't want it showing up on your pictures, you need to delete the top half of the code.
I am assuming that in time they will once again find their niche of the comfort zone. It just seems to be taking way too much time.
I noticed that they finally were able to set up the slide show program once again. I will attempt to go through my shots and find the ones that I would like to have in a show again. Also a pain! Speaking of pains, I am hoping that this is just some growing pains for Photobucket as they strive for the consumer to have a better format. Here are two shots of one of my Pensom rollers.

downloading a picture and not deleting half of the code will make each shot look like this

downloading a picture and deleting the jpg.html (top half of the code) will make each shot look like this.

Chuck, I have used this on occasion: http://imgur.com/ PB has been in change mode for a while but I haven't kept up with it - trying to wait until it all settles out. I still use it but never have used the auto resize feature. I always used Pixresizer before sending them off to PB.

Chuck & Al~

I have not been able to get Photobucket to post images for about 3 weeks now (I used it successfully for the first 2 weeks). It sounds like my problem is even more fundamental than what you've seen.

When I select an image from my Library/Album (uploading still works fine), I then select "get links". When that menu pops down, all choices (including IMG) are grey and cannot be selected or highlighted. So, I'm dead in the water.

I have been thwarted, too, trying to communicate with P-bucket to get help.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

SJS

A month ago I uploaded three pics to my PB account. The new format sucks and it took forever. When I finally got them uploaded and copied the link to put it in a post my anti-virus alerted me to a Trojan virus that was attached. I knew they were clean because I scanned them before I uploaded them and they came right off the camera. I clicked on some older photos and the same Trojan warning came up. I'm scared to even get on PB anymore.

That is exactly what I am talking about with the "extra stuff" for lack of caring to figure out the real terminology. I have seen similar codes on other photo hosting sites and find that annoying. Maybe PB is following the norm instead of setting the standard?

Pete, I've tried that one before after a friend of my wife recomended it. My initial impression was it wasn't what I was hoping for as I was probably too attached to the old PB, but that is no more, so I think I need to check that one again.

Steve K, I have heard the virus thing before, I seriously doubt they would let something like that go on and not get it fixed or shut down untill it got fixed. Having heard the rumors, and having my 'puter lock up on the PB site has worried me, but I have not gotten the warning from antivirus.

Thanks
Chuck

Chuck, have you considered Facebook? You don't have to post to the world, you can make private albums.... but once the image is in your FB album, simply open the picture to full size, right click, copy, and paste into DHBP. Comes in properly sized, no code just the image. That is all I use.

You can use the same procedure for Photobucket. Rather than click on the "get links" just view your picture full size in Photobucket, click on it and copy. Then paste in into your message.

Oh my, just went back to imgur and logged into the account I set up, immediately found the IMG links. I may have found my new photohosting home!

Dave D...I don't do Facebook...let me rephrase that...I DO NOT do Facebook! Do you realize that EVERYTHING you post to the Face-page becomes their property?

Dave M...thanks for the tip, seems they keep changing all the shortcuts, the ones I liked seem to be gone, but others appear without my realizing it.

I have found that their mobile version for the iPhone is just about worthless. There is no way that I could find to upload an image from the phone. When trying to load a fullsize image in Tapatalk on a forum nothing works very well and I end up with just a small thumbnail. To do image inserting you really need a mouse, the finger pointing and sliding just does not work.

I have been using FB for some stuff when PB was crashing to often over the years. My only issue with FB is that sometimes I miss one of the screen questions and end up publishing a whole bunch of photos that were set to private. I have not found a way to not let this happen.

imgur is a good site. lots of pr0n thanks to reddit. but thats OK.

I have never liked photobucket. Every time I've tried to access it or open pics in photobucket....my computer locks up. I stopped looking at anything with photobucket a long time ago.

I've had that happen to me twice in the past 45-60 days... No more photobucket for me.

Dave~

Thanks so much for the help on Photobucket - the copy & paste was much simpler - AND it works!

Neat vessel - is it a lifesaving/surf boat? Got more views of it?

All the best,

I have used photobucket for a few years in my business. The new version kept locking up and took forever to get to the album you wanted. But past couple days I get nothing. Click on and nothing happens. No log screen. Nothing. Anybody else having this or is my computer blocking it for some reason. Everything else is running fine.
