When changing, water pump ?

Do you just change the impeller or do you replace the impeller and housing.
Which brand do you but , sierra or factory original?

I alway buy factory original and just the impeller.
I would like to know what others are doing.

I'm "nerdy" when it comes to boats, so I've been buying factory for my Mercury, and if I'm going to take the time to split the drive, I might as well replace the impeller housing, too.
I do it every other year, but since I didn't use my boat much this year, I'll probably add another year to the schedule.

I used Sierra on my Merc Alpha One I/O, and the impeller failed due to a supplier/material issue that Sierra had. They made good on covering mechanic/haul-out costs, as well as replacing all parts and even sending an entire case of their gear oil......but, it makes me hesitant to use them again, being that the impeller is such a CRITICAL component, especially on large I/O's. It EASILY could've toasted my engine.

I use factory parts and only change the housing if there are signs of wear

Ditto on John,s comment. Impeller only unless housing is toast. Only factory if possible. That's why they last so long, same thing in the GMC...
