Who here uses Grayson Chesser's patterns?

I'm only familiar with Graysons mallards. I only use my own patterns, but have a friend who hunts over Graysons decoys.

His design, with the "cone" back to remove weight from the sides is pure genius. The decoy has a normal side profile and a good overhead shape. The "cone" is only visible from the butt view, and any duck who gets this view of your decoy should be seeing it upside down, as it is belly up!

Good luck, it a great working decoy pattern.

Hi Lee. Here's some I did a few years ago. Not Grayson's patterns, but very similar. I drew these patterns using photographs of real ducks and then "decoy-ized them" Seems like every time I try to do this I end up with something similar to Grayson's patterns. The lone wood duck is from a pattern in Keith Mueller's book. All of these are cedar, most painted with FME except the teal which are a combination of Rustoleums, tube paint and some solid body exterior stain.

Lee,
I like Grayson's book a lot. It was the first one I got. Waited a long time to carve my first.

This can used his head pattern. I fooled with the body a bit.
The Keel was a copy of a Hagerbaumer I saw in a drawing.

I found this shot I was looking for in another file. It shows the keel and the head a bit better. I sure wish I knew where this decoy ended up. It was sold at an auction and I never got to find out who bought it. I sure hope it is not ridding on some display shelf all year.
