Who's got an '07-'12 GM vehicle with the 5.3L and AFM?

How is your oil consumption? My truck started giving me a low oil warning and found I was down 3 quarts in my Silverado....seems to be a chronic problem with these motors since they put in the AFM (active fuel management). If you google it you'll find a LOT of complaints about it, and guys having to have the pistons/rings replaced and a baffle of some sort installed in the oil pan. Mine is at the dealer as I type this. So if you seem to be burning excessive oil and are still under warranty, I suggest getting your vehicle back to the dealer.

I have an 07 Suburban with the same issue . They replaced the baffle in the oil
pan and changed a few other parts. Make sure you document it with
Chevy to make sure it will be covered after warrantee is up. Chevy claims its normal oil usage. It seems the crap oil the dealer uses doesn't hold up. Try different oils. Believe it or not , the oil Mavis uses seems to be better in my truck. I've been dealing with this issue for about 50k miles now and it seems to be ok as long as you keep on top of it.

Well, They changed the oil.....that I just changed LAST Friday after I got the low oil alert....I told the service writer who didn't pass the word onto the mechanic...

Have to go back in 1,000 miles to have them check the oil level...

This is going to be a pain...

My wife has a 07 suburban and they replaced the oil baffel and that didnt work. They replaced the piston and rings due to a faulty design in the oil rings. They said they get stuck and the oil passes by. Its been 60k since they did they repairs and no issues.

My 07 started around 50K also. Uses a quart per oil change, about every 3000 miles. Chevy told me it was normal too, thought it was crap then and still do. I have had no other issues though and it's over 145,000 miles now. Guess I'll just go with it.
