Wisconsin boat registration

Can anybody enlighten me on what is involved in registering a home made boat in Wisconsin?
The boat I built is 14 1/2 ft and I have a 20 horse on it.

Call Penny Kanable a the Wisconsin DNR. She is in charge of Registration and Titling of boats for the state. (608)264-8985

Easiest thing to do is go into a DNR office to get it registered, doing via mailing or web is more difficult. I believe Paul Tychsen on this site has registered a boat he built he may be able to help. I have registered a number of canoes that had no proof of purchase that had just been sitting at a relatives cabin for the last 10 years and had never been previously registered. I had no problems getting them registered.

Gary,

Definately call the DNR. They were very helpful when I registered my BB3 a bunch of years ago. Since it is homemade you get the opportunity to make up your own serial number, etc. You will need your receipts for materials used in construction. If you payed taxes on those material in Wisconsin you are good to go I think. If you bought material, epoxy, etc. from out of state and didn't pay Wisconsin tax yet - you will have to in the registration process. The state is pretty good about it as long as they get their money - sound familiar? Talk to the Boat Registration folks - they are very helpful and will walk you through it.
