Wisconsin Homebuilt Registration?

Quick question as I couldn't find anything online. Does anyone know the requirements/process to registering a homebuilt boat (18') in WI? Also any links to form would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Brad

I used the recepts for the materials as a cost basis for my boat as anything purchased that you didn't already pay Wisconsin sales tax on will be taxed. The rest is fairly self explanitory. If you have additional questions call them, they are very helpful.

Thanks Pete. I had found that, but it doesn't mention anything about assigning a hull ID number/procedure for registering a home-built like NC does. The gentleman that bought the NFZ is up in WI right now and we're going to drop it off to him on the way out for our ND trip. He's actually from MS and is thinking about registering while he's up in WI. His best bet will probably be just to contact DNR.

Thanks again,

Brad

Brad, I asked that same question and they said .........make one up if you want. They don't assign hull ID numbers. When you fill out the form and they want a manufacturer just put - Home built. They really don't seem to want to know a lot of details as long as they get the taxes.

Yep, all the DNR cares about is getting their registration fee and did you pay sales tax on the material. I have never had show receipts, just told them I bought materials in WI and the taxes.

While the local office is helpful with the forms, any questions regarding structure, motor specs etc, they can not answer.

What part of the state are you meeting him? Any chance it's close to GB, would love to see your work.

Andrew...not sure of my WI geography but I don't think it is. We're meeting him at the Gander Mtn. that is in Madison just off of I-90. If by chance it is, I'd be more than happy for you to stop by as well.

Thanks,
Brad

That's about 2 1/2 hours away, that being said, when are you meeting him? Might be worth the drive to finally see you in person and see the boat.
