WoodenBoat Show in Mystic Conn

I just got off the phone with the people at WoodenBoat Magazine and my application to exhibit the Snow Goose that Frank Kehoe and I built has been accepted into their owner built section of the show. They are supposed to send me an info package here in the next week or so. I will be putting together some sort of display of construction and hunting photos to show there. Who do I see about getting a Duckboat.net sticker to put on the boat?

The show is scheduled to be June 26, 27, and 28. Hopefully some of you New England guys will be able to make it to the show. If so, please stop by and introduce yourselves.

My father and a cousin of mine are driving up from Md to stay a couple of nights with me and help me drink what I hope will be a prodigious amount of beer:)

Should be fun all the way around.

John,
Great news.
I am just a short 2 miles down the river. If you need anything let me know. If you finish up early one night we can take a short boat tour around the local area if you have never seen it.
I know you will have a big crowd esp if the weather is good this year. The show is very well attended and has some very cool wood boats every year.
Give me a shout if you need any local info leading up to your arrival.

Bob.

John, that falls on a 3 day weekend for me, so I will head up Friday and head home on Sunday. Where are you staying? I'll be looking for cheap hotel near by, but don't think CT shore and cheap go together......

Hi Dave. I hadn't made any a hotel arraingments yet. I hope to nail that one down in the next day or so. The best I had found was about $100 a day, but that was at a Howard Johnson's and they didn't have any rooms at all on Saturday night. I will post here when I do figure it out.

Bob, thanks for your very kind offer. I will probably take you up on it, but will have a better idea what I'm doing closer to the show. I'll give you a holler one way or the other.

Anyone in need of a hotel room list email me and I will send it over. I live a couple miles from Essex and have a catering business so I am sending out a hotel list to my clients. Lots to choose from in the area with several price ranges.

John,
If they get my bariatric surgery done in time for me to heal up, I plan to take the Misses to Mystic. Always wanted to go and this time if able I plan to be there as I don't know how many more chances I'll have. Amtrak has a station in Mystic proper but the closest flight I can get is to New Haven Ct. It's a 635 mile drive according to Mapquest and I don't know that I want to drive that far.

Really hope to see you there,
Harry

Hi Harry. Good luck on your surgery. If you do make it up, do please stop by and chat a while. Who knows, there might even be a cold libation there...

If Doc says OK, I'll probably fly into Hew Haven and take a rental to Mystic and stay there through Satuday and return home Sunday. I really want to get this surgery out of the way so that I can begin to plan again. I certainly will enjoy a cold libation if I get there as Becky will be doing all the driving. I hope a lot of folks on the page get there as it would be nice to put names with faces. It's a 10 hour drive for us so flying or Amtrak were the only options. Amtrak has a station in Mystic, but the time involved and the cost makes flying into New Haven a better deal.
Hope to see you there,
Harry

Dave,

I have been googling hotels in the area and those with the better rates either don't have a room for Saturday night or they appear to be ROACH motels. I've narrowed the search to 3 motels. Flagship Inn and Suites in Groton 1 888 254 0637: Econo Lodge, Groton (didn't write the phone # down) and the Econo lodge in Mystic 860 536 9666. all of them have reasonable rates for Wed thru Fri, but the rates for Sat sometimes doubled the previous days (amazing huh?).

As soon as I find out what my gastric bypass doc intends to do with me I will or will not make reservations and I'm leaning towards the Flagship as the best for the buck. Roudtrip flights from Greenville NC to New Haven Ct. are very reasonable at around $200.00. I had looked into travelling Amtrak but the cost is almost the same as flying and Amtraking it takes about a day.

Hope to see you in Mystic,
Harry

HI Harry. I know what you mean about the rate rise for Sat night. I made my reservations at the Mystic Howard Johnsons last week. I told my friend Dave about it and by the time he looked on line the rate for each night had jumped with Sat night being the biggest jump %-wise.

BTW, I don't think I mentioned this in any of the previous posts, but I emailed Sam Devlin that I was putting a boat of his design in the show and he said that was planning on stopping by on Saturday. I had mentioned to him that I hope to get a picture of him standing next to the boat as a wrap up to all my boat construction pics.

OK, using my hotel points, so save hundreds of $$$, but have to drive an hour each way.... oh well. Anyway, is anyone coming from Lou's area? I need 3 gallons of FME..... 2 for me, one for the neighbor. Will arrive late Thursday night, and head home Sunday.

Does anyone know if the "Exibitors" will be selling retail? I need a few things for my project... TIA, Dave
