Wrangler / Duck Wrangler boats

I frequent this forum on a regular basis and think it is the best forum on the web. I have seen Wrangler boats for sale on this site. It seems to me that there is some confusion. So I thought it might be best to inject some history about these boats. Wrangler boat company has been in business for over twenty five years. In 1998 Wrangler started building duck hunting boats for an other individual who sold the boats under the Duck Wrangler name. The last boat that Wrangler built for Duck Wrangler was in the 2001 model year. ALL Wrangler boats serial numbers start with the letters WGR . If you have or are looking at a boat with those letters then Wrangler manufactured the boat. The owner of Duck Wrangler decided to discontinue business with Wrangler and took his molds to another manufacturer in Ohio. That manufacturer built Duck Wrangler boats for about one year. Then the owner of Duck Wrangler opened up his own shop and built fiberglass Duck Wrangler boats for about two more years. At this point Duck Wrangler changed there name and stoped building fiberglass boats in favor of aluminum boats. After Duck Wrangler parted company with Wrangler in aprox. January of 2001 Wrangler decided to come out with it's own line of duck hunting boats in the 2002 model year. Since Wrangler came out with there own line I have personally built every boat to date. In 2004 I took over the duck hunting portion of the business and Manufacturer the boats under the Wrangler name. I have had several individuals email me about warenty work on there Duck Wrangler boats and when I tell them I didn't build there boat they get quite upset and I don't blame them. That is why I posted this. If you call the Owner of Duck Wrangler boats he will tell you that they are no longer in business and will not cover any warenty problems. That is correct they are no longer in business at least under that name. Wrangler however is still in business and isn't going anywhere any time soon much to the distain of two other manufacturers that I won't name. So if someone tells you Wrangler is out of business have them give me a call. Tom Ayers Work phone 330-854-6049 Canal Fulton, Ohio . I posted this because I am tired of loosing sales because of other manufacturers saying I'm going or have gone out of business. This is how I make my living and I'm tired of people messing with my livly hood. I have kept my mouth shut long enough. I have never put down any other manufacturers boats even though they haven't done the same twards my boats. I respect the owners of this site and I hope that I will still be welcome on this site in the future. If someone thinks that what I posted is wrong then they should put on my shoes for a while and see how it feels. I have never publicly complained but enough is enough. Believe what you want but I speek the truth. Sincerely, Tom Ayers.

I have spoke with you over the phone and appreciate you giving me numbers to contact the people who built my 91 fiberglass wrangler. If I had the money I would buy one of your boats.Again I thank you.

I own two Wrangler boats, a 2005 Wrangler 15 and a 2009 Duck Invader 10. I can say that these boats are of the highest quality at a reasonable price. My dealer, Richard Young, in Pennsylvania is great as well. To anyone who is considering purchasing a duck boat, the Wrangler boats are worth your consideration. They are very stable in the water, float in only a few inches of water and have many options, blinds, lights, etc. Bryan Gordon - New Jersey

I have spent my personal and business life taking the high road and will continue to do so. The statement that you have made is false. Check your PM and I'm sure a retraction will be forth coming. My original post was in no way design to knock anyone products. I only wish to post the truth. If you are going to post something have the facts of which you don't. This is the kind of stuff we have had to contend with for the past seven years. Now you understand my frustration. Tom Ayers.

Actually you are, spreading rumors that is. Classic text book example of a rumor.

Tom I've retracted. I was being sincere in what I heard. This is afterall a discussion board. I was/am considering purchasing one of those boats b/c I like the invader.

You're welcome

Mike, Thank you. Rich has a Duck Invader in stock if your serious. Don't always believe what you hear. Sincerely, Tom Ayers.

This is a discussion form. You were/are given tha chance to "clear things up". I personally love the boat and I am not out to sabatoge anyone.

Tom,
I have seen your boats and think you make a fine product. I can not say the same about a certain tin boat maker in Ohio.It is funny that last week I saw a friends new boat built here in Ohio from tin and he posted somewhere about it.
I commented on the thread that for $23K for a hull and trailer no engine, I was very un-impressed to say the least with the quality, fit and finish was terrible, welds you could cut yourself on about any weld, rigging was terrible,etc....

In an hour I have a message on my phone m.f'ing me and saying I am gonna get an ass beating and on and on. From the owner of the tin boat place!!!!!!What a class act is all I can say.

Keep up the good work, stand behind your product and people will come to you. Quality always wins out over the guys in it for nothing other than a buck.

I thought every boat comes with a Grinder..............LOL

Tom, I have seen your boats and feel that they are first class. You have every right to defend yourself. Nobody seems to want to mention the name DuckWater Boats in this post for some reason. I for one cannot speak of their workmanship but I do feel that they are way over priced.

Last year in Tuckerton I picked up my Dave Clark Estuary. While wandering around I checked out the humongous DuckWater boat that was at the show. When I complimented the guys on what I thought was a nice but way too big for me boat they became defensive. When I told them what I had purchased they bad talked Dave something fierce. I never once gave them a reason to act as they did. Whoever they were they were very unprofesional. Sometimes the truth hurts.

I guess that I'll be waiting for my phone call!!!....................Kevin

A couple of years ago I began looking into the different duck boats out there. The Duck Wrangler, Wrangler, Duck Water thing can be a little confusing. It is nice to see the history of the name and it's evolution....which you say is your intent for the posting. Some time ago I found a similar post on another site by Steve Hoover, http://www.refugeforums.com/...?t=526117&page=2. (Charlie will find the answer to why they changed thier name) As with everything, there is always two sides and the number one thing I have learned from joining several forums is that an unbias opinion is seldom found in a forum. The one thing I wish is that all you builders would just state the facts about your craft on your website and let the numbers and design do the talking. I think you have a nice looking boat, but I wish you had a little more info and pictures on your website, as well as your prices. I feel that a company should lay thier product information in the open and let an educated consumer make a decision. If you have a quality product for a good price, you will make money.

Kevin.....prices are a relative thing. Compared to Bankes, a DWB is less expensive. I cannot compare to a Wrangler or TDB because they do not post prices on thier websites. It comes down to what the consumer needs the boat for. Each boat seems to have thier advantages. There is not one perfect boat for everything...despite what ANYONE says.

Rich....seems there is more to the story then an innocent bystander making an observation on a forum. I have seen your posts on the fuge before and whether it is griping about layout or boat manufacturers, you always seem to have an ax to grind.

Jason, you bring up a good point about the price. What is too much for me may be just right for someone else. My post was mainly concerning the flack that I recieved. I have a friend with a Bankes which cost more that my truck. The point however is that he could'nt say enough good things about the sevice that he recieved from Bankes. Those building a good product should remain humble as you say Jason. Maybe DWB has a problem with their sales staff and maybe they don't. Whatever the case they sure turned me off. But that point is moot as I am not in the market for such a craft.................Happy hunting............Kevin

There were only about seven of the 17ft. boats made. I think the last one was a 2001 and is on the west coast. I have had prices of the boats on the web site in the past but removed them. When I had to increase the price and didn't get the price changed on the web page a customer insisted that I honor the price listed which I did. It may not sound like much but it cost me $200.00 . That's not going to break me but with my prices already lower then my competitors I have to watch the bottom line. Something about making a profit in order to stay in business. I'm planning to redo the web site soon and will again be listing the prices with a subject to change without notice clause. Speaking of 17ft models. I'm finally going to have a new 17ft. boat ready this spring. Sincerely, Tom Ayers.
