Yamaha electric to tiller??

Had a helluva time trying to find the outboard I want for the punt. Bran season is approaching. Been searching for a 25-30hp yamaha short shaft. Lots of long shafts around not to many shorts in that hp. I'd prefer a used 2 stroke model.

Turns out a dealer I've used before has exactly the model. 30hp yamaha short shaft 2 stroke but it's setup for froward controls.

I've heard of guys getting the parts to change a manual tiller to electric power but what about the other way around. Forgot to ask the store if possible but figured some would know on here.

Possible but maybe not smart cost wise? I started jumping when he started reading the specs. Everything on my checklist but then power controls ruined it

I was just pricing Yamaha F70LA a little over a month ago when I started my boat search for a Bankes hull with no motor. I worked through a Yamaha/Mercury dealer that is a recommended source for both the HUlltruth membership and the Verado Owners Club (preferred parts and maintenance supplies source). Andy told me I would have to purchase the tiller handle ($400.00) and a separate plug-and-play wiring harness ($189.00) to do the conversion from remote steer to tiller for this unit. Obviously this would involve about an hour of mechanics time to rig the motor as well. Hopefully you can find one pre-rigged.

Adam,
You don't hear of many switching from a long shaft to short shaft anymore but that is a possibility you might want to price also...I've done it in the past when finding the right motor...
I just converted a remote 40hp to a tiller at a total cost of $900...Good luck in your search....
