Dog trailer ideas…

I picked up this new to me 2-hole dog trailer a couple months ago. Each hole can comfortably hold 3 dogs. What are your must haves?

So far I have added a spare tire and holder and rubber grip tape to the rack so I have a place to rest guns. I’ll probably add seadek or some other foam decking to the top as well for a safe place to set gear.

I’m trying to resist the urge to go all out since it will be attached to a truck with a camper shell.

I have a friend with a dog trailer that he uses to bring his dogs out to the quail lease. He installed attachments and chain so he could take the dogs out and chain them to the trailer at their compartment. He also installed a back up latch/chain to keep the door from accidentally opening all the way.

I had another friend that took a turn too fast, the door on one of his dog compartments opened and she was launched out of her compartment. Luckily, she was uninjured but after that he installed back up latches.

I was going to add eyes with short leads then realized that I had a perfectly good roof rack I could tie a leash to.

Interesting on the unintentional suicide doors. These lock and the previous owner didn’t mention that ever being an issue while he had dogs.

I had a dog trailer years ago. Mine was 6 holes. I took one and made it storage. Installed a deep cell battery, and a camper exhaust fan. I could draw air through that way. I also covered the vents, with Jeep headlight wire covers. The aluminum vents are sharp, I had little kids and did not want a finger cut or bitten when the dogs were in the box. Mine had a large water tank on top, which helped with cooling and always ensured plenty of home water available. I had the exhaust fan on a thermostat, and had a display on my phone. If it got too hot, I was alerted. Was very hand at hunt tests to know the dogs were fine. I carried a pop up tent for shade.

Hello. I haven't been here in over a decade, last time I tried te forum t seemed to be corrupted or mothballed so I got out be somethg past my security software. Anyway today on a search I found a live recent link and here I am.

To post, you may try Retrievertraining.net. Lots of amatuer and pro trainers there that run trailers with dogs nearly every day. If it has happened or can help, someone there knows. Hope it helps. David
