The lack of a Maine Plum Island sent me on an insomnia-fueled deep dive last night. The Plum Island in Mass--and presumably also the one on Long Island--are both named for the beach plums found there. Although beach plums do extend north up the coast into Maine, Plum Island, MA is considered the farthest north location with a lot of them. I've set a new goal for next year's duck season--to hunt a marsh where I can see beach plum bushes. May have to finally figure out how to navigate MA gun laws and the complexities of the Plum Island Refuge's hunting zones.
