    Question For Retired Hunters

On another note I'll relate my late father's decision to stop hunting. This occurred when he was 75ish .. in the late 1980's. While he was primarily a big game hunter he duck hunted some with me. We were in Eastern MT when this occurred. He had a WW2 buddy over there so every fall we applied...

    Question For Retired Hunters

MLBob's statement gets about 1/2 my thoughts "My desire to experience "being out there" has not diminished, but I have come to accept and understand the toll that a day's hunting will take on this old body" The other half is the safety factor. I'm pushing 80 and have been retired since 96...

Does anybody hunt out of a 20' modified jon?

I have a 1999 Lowe 1960. Completely open with a short casting deck up front and two seats in the rear corners with some of the flotation in them powered by a 60 hp tiller. Used to haul an MLB up front in an homemade rack and the guy I bought it from did the same. Haven't hunted layout for...

    Government Shutdown and Federal Refuges

Ed L the bruising could be as simple as his meds. If I bump the back of my hand even with gloves on I get a huge bruise. Not so bad on my arms but for my wife she looks like she's being beaten all the time on her arms .. just from bumping around in her quilt sewing room so maybe a few well...

    Government Shutdown and Federal Refuges

At 79 I'm doing most all of those things mentioned above especially when alone but .....Ive scaled way back on hunting and fishing. Just seems much more difficult now days. I hope to get out more this year. We'll see.

    Who needs a boat trailer!

Sorry to disappoint but checking today I find that canopy and loader assembly is just to buried and up against the neighbors fence to be able to take a photo. My father was the builder as I was just a young guy that loved to fish....which he taught me. His ingenuity, skills building with...

    Who needs a boat trailer!

It's actually out back on the canopy. He used bicycle sprockets for the chain drive gears. The handle was a simple crank that slipped over the end of the shaft and had a slot in the crank that then slipped over a key in the drive shaft. There was a flip up dog onto the top sprocket ? that was...

    Who needs a boat trailer!

Fond memories .. Back in the 70's the Eide boat loader was the new thing. My Dad built a copy for both our PU canopy's. Eide had both hand crank and motorized. Ours loaded hand loaded our 12' and 14' aluminum car toppers easily on the canopy's. Very handy device.

July 2025 What's on your workbench?

Eric you seem to be a tireless worker. I'll be darned if I "ever" had that much drive in any one area let alone ALL the things you seem to have going at once. You are my hero when it comes to projects. 👍 BTW great job as always !!!!

    Prop source for aluminum props....

You don't need all those ? Same pitch? Possibly .. Send one off to your prop repair and have them change the pitch. Don't remember how far they can go but years back had it done for less than to cost of another.

    Swan decoy floaters?

Really nice. Much more "wildlife art" type decoy than mine. My wood working skills are less than my mechanical skills (which aren't that much either) but my attempts at removable head/neck are done by using Al tubing that is a slip fit between sizes...actually designed for collapsible radio...

    Swan decoy floaters?

Beautiful. I'd say nicer than any I've made. Ive had trouble getting light weight enough material so they float as nice as yours. I use Western Red Cedar for my bottom board and various white woods for the head and neck. Keeping my head and neck more silo style than yours and they still set...

    Swan decoy floaters?

Brad B - yes you were..😁 I believe that was the first time we met but for sure the first time we hunted together. BTW two sleepers on the shelf now..just saying 😉

    Swan decoy floaters?

I've hunted some of mine in past years. Trouble is they are really popular with friends and relatives so I keep giving them away and making more. ;-). Some now get removable head/neck with the idea they'd be easier to transport but I have t hunted them yet.
