    August workbench

I got this bunch of pintails to Caleb at noon yesterday. This is what he had by 3 pm today. He's been working on a paint schedule for pintail hens, I think this will work.

That eye problem was an issue at first for me and took some time to solve. The eyes have to cure awhile and I don't put anything behind the eye like clay or apoxie sculpt that might cause that kind of separation. You can also bake the enamel paint on the eyes, something like 200 degrees, don't...

    July workbench

I've been working with one basic body pattern for about 15 years now for all of my big ducks like mallards and pintails. It's very versatile and this mallard makes for pose #41 on the same basic starting block. There is still a lot of carving and customizing, but it's kind of crazy what all...

    Heydey decoys

The only still water spot we hunt is a huge flat that only goes about thigh deep 100 yards off shore. It gets real windy and if you don't have at least 10 oz. or more the decoys will walk with the waves and be well out of range in a short time. For some reason though the ducks love that windy...

    July workbench

It's what I'd call a "make hay while the sun shines" type of a day. We are having a reprieve from the heat, right now at 2 in the afternoon it's 80 degrees, but the humidity is a little steep at 35%, which is high for mid day here. I'm from Kansas, so I'm well aware at how absurd the humidity...

    Heydey decoys

My heaviest decoy is 28 oz, some keel less as light as 17 oz. It's very similar to William's decoys, all were made from the same pattern. This one was competed a few days ago and weighs 28 oz. I'm up to 41 poses on the same basic pattern. As William mentioned we have had a collaboration...
