I just started doing some hollow birds this past year. My only guide was Grayson's book. Good to see some of the folks much more experienced than I doing things pretty much the same as I am... or at least they were 13 years ago.

I'll be honest I had never heard of that site until a week or two ago. Someone on the fuge posted a link to it for some reason I can't remember. I've looked at quite a few pictures since while painting decoys.

For as far back as I can remember the only 2 things in this life I ever really knew I wanted to be was a duck hunter and decoy carver. Being from right in the middle of Back Bay/Currituck Sound area decoys and duck hunting pretty much ends up in every locals life or heritage somehow. Oddly...

I'm a member of 1 other forum. I don't see adds there either. I look at both forums in an ad blocker. It's free. Yes I was serious but I guess kinda tongue in cheek. I figured there was some paid memberships or what have you just like the other forum but I don't subscribe to either. Y'all do...

What is that round rasp in the second picture?

You can knock the corners off the block with a band saw or a knife, black cork can be a little tough on a carving knife blade. Then shape with a rasp and sandpaper.

And its always far crueler than any of man's ways.

Painted that black yesterday. I like the head but I'm not sure about the body.
