Congrats! If I didn’t have kids in sports I would’ve considered it with mine but I probably hunt upland too much to ribbon very high. I have learned to trust the way he hunts and his style is not conducive to running big, straight, blinds or precision handling.

Given that the duck hunter is a “modern” design for ply construction, I wouldn’t hesitate to use PVC (or encapsulated wood) stringers to stiffen the floor. Another 1/2” of ply and all the associated epoxy and glass will add significant weight.
I teach upright/ready carry as the primary. As the gun comes down it shouldn’t paint hunters or dogs unless it’s a low bird that we shouldn’t be swinging on anyways. We don’t shoot grounded birds for the same reason.

This is why I despise most single shots as youth guns. In order to re-safety the gun, a kid with little coordination or hand strength has to decock the gun. A slip of the hammer and BOOM!
I took a buddy to the property I killed my bird 2 weeks ago. He must be bad juju because we heard nothing for the first morning this season. No way off gobbles, no hens, nothing. I usually hang in there until I’ve got to be somewhere but we covered 2.5 miles and hung it up at 8:30.
