    Black cork question…

I just found a marketplace ad for 2”x12”x36” black cork panels. I’ve always carved wood but wouldn’t mind coating myself in black cork dust to say I did it. Aside from making a pile of teal and buffleheads with bottom boards, can it be glued up ok if I can get it cheap? Or just pass on it for...

    Drought Conditions

We’re dry as a popcorn fart in Tennessee. Been that way all winter and spring.

Marked down to $300. Tempted but it doesn’t fit my needs and I don’t have a place to put it

    Wing bones…

I realize this is primarily a duck site, but ‘tis the season, and I’ve got wing bones in the pot. We’re trying to make a call from my son’s bird along with some Canada geese we killed last winter. We’d welcome any tips for call/section lengths.

    Spring Turkey

I got my son on his first ever Sunday afternoon in between worship. Temps were in the mid 80s and the wind was howling out of the south so we set out for a scouting mission but took along his 20 gauge just in case. I had a feeling that if we found birds, they be down in the creek bottom and in...

    Spring Migration 2026

My porch doves staked their claim the day after our hanging pots went out. She raised 2 broods in a flower pot last summer.

    Spring Turkey

Longbeards pattern very tight. My gun likes the 6 shot better than 5. You may need to add a red dot if the pattern isn’t centered on the bead. It’s very common with the super tight patterns thrown by turkey chokes.

    Spring Turkey

Wear full camo. Lay off the hens- they’re nesting during the season, they’re much smaller than the gobblers, and they don’t strut or gobble. Pattern your gun, know your effective range, and start learning your calls now. Move through the woods like you believe a turkey is within 100 yards at...

    Bird dog training ban act

Then why doesn’t Iowa just pass it at the state level? Either there’s no appetite for it in Iowa or something else is going on.

    Bird dog training ban act

Pointing and flushing breed (upland) events only use live birds. The HRC International Grand hunt test offers a live bird upland scenario as an option for the 5th evaluation.

    Bird dog training ban act

Is there a legal definition of “open field coursing” that adequately excludes scent hound and bird dog breeds? As hunting dog people, are we ok with the incremental erosion of the sports that we collectively enjoy until the proverbial wolf is at our door? If not, all it takes is an overzealous...

    20 guage for ducks?

1.25 oz of #6 Longbeards. It’s barely a 40 yard pattern so we won’t be trying to shoot that far. Gotta keep a little margin. I can’t bring myself to spend TSS money.

    20 guage for ducks?

This is what we did on my son’s turkey gun. Maybe not ideal but it’s holding so far. I have a similar rib mount on my 12 that isn’t tapped.
