Duck Boat Lighting & Wiring Upgrade | No More Rat’s Nest!

Hey everyone,

My brother and I recently finished reworking the wiring and lighting on a duck hunting john boat, and I thought I’d share in case it helps anyone tackling something similar. The boat had some previous DIY wiring that wasn’t exactly ideal (yes… speaker wire 🤯), so we stripped everything out and rebuilt it using marine-grade wire and waterproof connectors. We added a proper raceway, installed a new stern light and LED bow light, and built a small control console with switches, fusing, and charging ports.

The video walks through the layout, the parts we used, and the reasoning behind each change.

Here’s the video:

I’ll be adding links to the parts and materials in the YouTube comments for anyone interested.

Really, speaker wire? Reminds me of my former neighbor who used standard residential house wire and buried it underground for shore power.
