- Frame: The complete, transverse "U" or "V" shaped rib structure extending from one side of the boat to the other.
- Rib: A lightweight, flexible piece of wood bent into shape using steam.
- Futtock: A short, pre-curved piece of solid wood joined together with other pieces to build a large frame.
Useful definitions, but....there's a lot to be said for laminated "ribs" - no steam required!
