Working from the bow to the transom, I have been working on completing the interior of the sneakbox.
If you installed the top ribs correctly, a straight edge will lay flat from station 7 to the bow piece. Using hand plane and scraper I shaped the bow nose piece. A couple of ribs were low so I cut and glued on a filler piece to get a level line from station 7 to the bow.
From the beginning I planned to build the boat with sailing parts installed. Using white oak I installed a mast partner across the top ribs. Once the mast partner was set I installed the mast step. I used a level to ensure the mast was plumb.
I then started working on the centerboard case. I am changing the plans to an offset centerboard. Unfortunately the base piece I glued in when I installed the bottom shifted. Luckily there was enough width to fit the centerboard.
I started fitting the bed logs. It took several attempts but I built the bed logs to match the curvature of the bow and the angle of the bottom and be level across the top.
Once that was completed I started working on the centerboard case. The rear piece is a bit difficult as the front is 3 1/4" from the rear of station 7 at the top to 1 1/4" at the bottom to the rear of station 7. Using scrap and machinist rule I was able to get the angle correct. Once that was completed I laid out the center line and start and ending of the centerboard slot. Using a jig saw I roughed out the slot.
I then fitted the case end log to the slot and matched the bottom profile of the boat. The plans call for a 14" wide slot so I used a piece of scrap wood to make a gage to ensure the opening was correct. I then finished fitting the front end log.
Next step is to fit the well cap to the case and the front ribs.
