    Please don't laugh...

I think this is a neat rig, and I'm sure this will work out for you. Good luck this season!

    What would you do here?

Well said. I've found that in Michigan, the trailer wire connnections really last if you protect the exposed metal wire strands with the liquid electric tape, heat shrink tubing, or lots of good electrical tape. A dollop of dielectric grease helps with the bulb connections corroding...

Let me rephrase but I still need help!!

I've been working on exactly the same idea for quite some time. The issue you'lll run into is the width (36" for decent paddleing IMO) and length. I personally have a Carston Puddler (10' L and 36" W) and I overload it with me at 275 dozen 2 dozen dekes and some gear. The end result is that it...

    Marsh Restoration Project

Good job Carl. I know what a PITA big projects turn into. FYI: Michigan has some erosion issues too. One of the ideas I've seen that might make sense is the artificial seaweed to build up sand bars. Very cool work though. Not to exciting, but worthwhile in the long run. :-)

It's always and adventure with me...especially turkey hunting it seems

Absolutly right Dave. If I had the need, I'd be set up exactly as you described. I prefer the reciever on front and rear as the attachment depends on super stout bolts and pins, not welds. A lifetime ago, I worked the Sand Dunes Off Road Area in Michigan. We ran a stock tire and aired it...

It's always and adventure with me...especially turkey hunting it seems

When I lived north of 'da bridge, we played around in northern Wisconsin near a town called Mountain. We ran some wicked trails and had a ton of fun. Standard equipment for our crew was: another truck to tug you out, carried a 3" snap strap, used bolted on tow hooks for the straps, carried...

Just found a new product...pretty cool

Thanks for the reminders, Lou. I'm getting the Gill Getter ready, and the hitch lock hints are really good. Scott

    marshboat model--feedback welcome

Attached is a boat I built in our basement. 12' long, 36" wide. I used BCX and 1x dimensional pine from menards. 4 oz cloth and epoxy on the outside, epoxy only on the inside. One difference from my boat to your model is that there is about 3" of rocker in the bow and stearn. The rocker...

    Everyone cross their fingers

You'll be fine. Everything is slow right now but eventually cars will start selling again. Just remeber: you have a ton of knowledge the someone will pay for. One idea: check into being a Votech or Industrial Arts Teacher. I subbed a few times and it was a pretty decent gig. Not as fun as...

    Michiganders

I think your on the right track. I'd just find a 16 Big Jon and a big enough long tail to push it. I've drooled crossing the muskegon on 131 many times. I think those areas get hit pretty hard early. A mud motor would help get away from the crowds there. Good luck,

    Some eye candy

LOL She just has to take part in the projects, the better half can stand the whining for about 10 min before the dog come bounding though the door to check things out. After some sniffing, she just finds a nice spot and keeps a watch out for wood chucks and deer. Still getting the hang of...

    Some eye candy

A couple of things I've been messing with to replace a Cartson's Puddler. Of course, every good workshop needs a supervisor...;-)

Would you Drive 500 Miles to Buy a Lund????

FYI: I've been looking for a boat that meets your criteria up here in mid mich. I'll vote for a good used. One of my deal breakers was a flat floor/open floor plan. Another was the ability of my old 25 long shaft Evenrude to push the thing at a reasonable pace. (The weight of a 4 stroke is...

    mud motors and riveted hulls?

I ran into a guy who used a 9 hp on a 12 V and liked it. You could do it. Get over on the 'Fuge and do some research. For you, seach for hooking, as in the hull. I think the verticle force excerted by the mud motors puts a ton of stress on hulls that is different then an outboard will. For your...

Foam core for lightweight boat building?

I think plywood is the way to go. I have read a ton on small boats along the same lines as your after. IMHO curved Okhume plywood is the best weight to strength material that is useable in a home workshop. You could go with cedar strip using bead and cove. Your hull shape should be no big deal...

    mud motors and riveted hulls?

Depends, I think. If you run a 6 hp longtail on just about anything, the speed is not fast enough to worry about stressing the hull (except for a Sportspal maybe...) If your maxing out the motor size to the boat size, construction seems to make a big difference. Longitudnal stringers, welded...

Well, it happened yesterday - lost my job.

Dear Mark: I thought I'd post up a story of one of my bud's dad, Big Mike. Mike was a skilled trades type guy at a glass foundry in the Detroit area. He is a very smart guy who works hard. He also knew the in's and outs of keeping this furnace running. Mike and some others were laid off and...

The wheels of justice move slowly - today's court review

Dear Mark: FYI: The local UAW for the Flint GM plant had cheap/free lawyers availible. I believe my union has the same. Just a thought. Having sat through a few court sessions, I'll tell you the thing that strikes me. The self represented defendents are trying to deal with strong...

Broad bill on Saginaw Bay or Lake St. Clair

I'll let you know. To tell the truth, I spent 7 years in 'da UP 'eh. We hunted the bay out of Menominee and Cedar River, some lakes up towards Barage, Indian Lake over near Manistique, and Big Bay de Noc over near Manistique. Where do you go in the UP? Lots of great memorys from up north...

Broad bill on Saginaw Bay or Lake St. Clair

Thanks Terry, I figured as much. I've been out on Green Bay/Little Bay de Noc when the weather kicks up, Yikes! I'll save my pennies and keep a sharp eye out for a proper big water rig. The Broadbill will be deadly and cozy on some of the impoundments near our home. Thanks again,
