It's March What's on your workbench?

My first Canvasback head, starting a second one here soon. Gonna get a few heads done and then move on to bodies. Keith I got to use your technique of setting the eyes with clay for the first time on this head. It really allows me to play with the eyes as much as I want without any time constraints.

    Decoy #7 for me

I carved this bird a while back and just never got around to painting it. Basswood head, HD cork and acrylics. I think this will be the last bird I paint in acrylics. I now have Keith's book in hand so its game on!! oh..and this bird is being donated to the local delta waterfowl banquet.

    Raising the transom height?

I just picked up a Four rivers 2 man boat and got a sweet deal on a little evinrude 4 horse to go with it. I was wondering how the more experienced folks on here would go about raising the transom height so that I can mount my motor to sit a little higher up. I have seen the jack plate but...

    Carstens pintail/Mallard questions

Doug, thanks for the pic...that helps put things into perspective. The pics that they have on carstens website dont really allow you to get a good feel for the size of the boat. As I said before I am only 5'7" and my pup barely pushes 50#, she it a little girl so I think the pintail should work...

    Carstens pintail/Mallard questions

I want to pick up either a carstens pintail or mallard and I would to hear from some of those who actually own the boat. I like the pintail for its smaller size but I with it was a little deeper. I will be using it for a shallow water marsh layout. with the cockpit being 7.75' and me being only...

    My rig in progress

Being laid off has a few benefits, like lots of time for carving!! Finally got around to getting started on my widgeon rig plus a few cans. I have 18 blanks total ready to get carving on. I am hoping to have them all ready to paint by next week!

    Devlin Mallard build?

Carl, the reason I choose the mallard was that most of the impoundments I hunt are small and shallow, so I usually dont have very far to go. The boat will probably be powered by a 5 horse or something to save on weight. Most times I have less then a mile to travel and from the plans it looked...

    Devlin Mallard build?

Thanks Tod, that is what I was figuring. I am still gonna order the plans and start laying everything out, but since I wont have to worry about getting it done by this coming season I will be taking my sweet time. So I guess its foam and epoxy...which should do the job just fine for one season.

    Devlin Mallard build?

I have been contemplating building a devlin mallard for a few months now. I read all of the best estimates from the devlin page. Its says about a 100 hours for rough completion and wanted to know from the experts on here what kind of actual time I am looking at. I am very handy with wood and...
