    Life Vest

Glad to hear it worked out for the best and you are safe. Lesson learned here from your experience. In Massachusetts we need ramp permits for most spots even though they used Federal funding to build them; however most towns inforce the permits May through September and leave the off season...

    Some what DR-Salt marsh?

With the exception of the pines our tree growth is the same in wetlands. We will get some white pines in our wetlands. I am in cranberry country and the breaching of a berm is along the lines of what I was thinking but your post seems more realistic.

    Some what DR-Salt marsh?

Hunted a salt marsh in RI today for the first time and in keeping with my pact to be more careful I went out with the sun high in the sky since I was unfamilar with the water. I have been around salt marshes in RI and MA and this one is really odd. While I have encountered tree stumps and...

    Grassed layout boat for Bluebills.

I found a spot that is really sheltered with a good group of bluebills and even though the limit is two I want to give them a shot for old times sake. I have shot hundreds from a boat in open water painted battleship grey with a rigid blind. My question is will they flare from my Wigeon that is...

Has anyone used a frieght service for shipping boats?

I like the half way idea. I would be worried if I found a carrier that the boat would make it like you left it. New boats are put on carriers all the time but different construction and not packed in with other stuff. The meet in the middle will give you an excuse to see some place new. I have...

    wow

Well, for a minute I was thinking we were on the same marsh but the after sunset gave it away. Not sure what state you are in but I ran out to RI this afternoon to get out a few more times before the season ends for good and somebody was gunning nearby and the only person I could see before the...

    What do you think?

Great feed back as well as from Vince. Remember waterfowling can be just as dangerous from land without a boat. I recall a hunt on the north side of Cape Cod where a friend slipped on some ice along the edge of a ditch. The tide was as almost ten feet that day and we expected two feet of water...

    What do you think?

Have to agree with you on doing well on nice days. My best days this year were above freezing before the ice front, no wind and sunny.

    Leo Mcintosh decoy photos?

Also go on Artfact or Live Auctioneers and under archieves or sold you can type in his name and all the recent decoys that have come up for sale through Guyette and Schmidt, Decoys Unlimited or Copleys will come up. You might get a few other sales from other auction houses but that will at least...

    What do you think?

The what do you say post has me thinking about all the recent waterfowling related deaths. A few local DU representatives and local outdoor writers have gone on the record to explain the recent string of events that resulted in three deaths, particularly since the last two when a captain...

    Two hunters die

Funny how children put a different outlook on your actions. Also we need to think about the responders and how we put their lives on the line when we head out in dangerous conditions. Might be their job but it is selfish to disregard their safety and families for our own amusement in conditions...

    Layering under waders

Couldn't agree with you more. With feet less can be more and I learned that on my own layering as many wool socks on my feet as I could squeeze into a boot as a teenager.

    Two hunters die

Got to side with Dick on this one. I agree that we have all pushed the envelope but during ideal conditions or atleast not when the wind is howling a steady 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Furthermore, the wind compounds the dangerousness of the water when on tidal waters. Put a steady wind against...

    Two hunters die

Great point and in the videos on tv you can see the Environmental Police boat covered in ice. My decoys on Friday and Saturday certainly iced quickly in the salt and looking at that grass I can see the added weight affecting the stability of the boat most importantly in addition to...

    Two hunters die

Well, last week with the missing duck hunter in Fairhaven, MA I thought about some learning the hard way and getting lucky. While some learn from experienced boaters and baymen. Turns out on of the deceased was a charter boat fishermen that was an organizer for an annual shark tournament on...

    Two hunters die

All to familiar with these waters with a NW wind gusting a gale against the tide as was the case today. Been there and done that in January in a very large and stable boat and the results are not surprising given the craft they were in. Every few years the mouth of the Westport River claims a...

May be of interest to old decoy enthusiasts...

Thanks for sharing and looking at the homecoming picture makes it look like a recent decoy discovered in a boat shed. Sadly those days are gone. Always fun poking around old structures and wondering of the past.

First post in a while (picture heavy)

Gotta love the pictures of the spread and duck boat in action as much as the productivity of the hunt. Nice job down there and things have been red hot here in MA. Actually wish it would warm up to let the ice out of the bays so I can get my little boat to enjoy a few last hunts before the...

    Blackjack vs Broadbill

Sounds like you are referring to the splash well in the cockpit cover. If so, than yes, there is a hole that should have a plastic through hull conection if original. However, the connection was plastic and given the age and materials probably suffered a similar fate to mine. If we are talking...

    Please send divers....

I often save older steel shot shells that have rust on the casing or dull casing for that exact use. Safer than shooting the weathered shells at ducks as sometimes they can be semi duds and lodge a wad in the barrel.
