Thanks, it's one of a few I've owned but definitely my favorite. She has slight rocker from to back, and also some curvature port to starboard. 3/8 cedar planked construction allow for gentle curves throughout. The rocker helps get her up over the rice mat, and the side camber makes turning a...

When did grassing boats become common?

Sneakboxes were routinely grassed with Sedge and and seaweed on the Jersey coast going back to its inception in the late 1800s

Advice on sneakbox - AA Broadbill or MLB Wigeon

You must be referring to Paul Castelli! A great guy and a fixture Both on Long Island and local New Jersey scene. I know it may not be in the cards but if you could make it to the Tuckerton show on the 28th and 29th of this month the options for boats, both old and new wood probably boggle the...

    NDR ......... Sora

One of my favorite days of the year! Pulling the rail skiff ( circa 1920, restored 2018) out of mothballs and giving her a nice thick coat of warmed up linseed oil. The oil helps keep the water out of the wood and really brings it back to life. She will be on the rice looking for Sora soon...

    Early Teal Season

Nice job. Looks like a good day. They are going to be hooked! We don't get an early teal season here in New Jersey but while in the marsh over the past week Green Wing's and blue wings are starting to make their appearance. Definitely a good sign for our early split

    Balsa block

Rick, you hit the nail on the head as far as Polonia being expensive and hard to get in the 80s and 90s. I answered a want ad in the local paper to buy a bunch of white cedar from a Carver of totem poles who was retiring due to advanced age. I bought a beautiful truckload of white cedar but...

Advice on sneakbox - AA Broadbill or MLB Wigeon

Just a few items for thought, is the broadbill the factory built arthur Armstrong version? As there was plans sold for those as well and many are fiberglass over Wood. Which generally requires more maintenance. I'm familiar with both vessels, if I had the choice I would go with a factory built...

    What's On Your Workbench? September

I don't know that I would drive 28 hours to see it, lol but it is a pretty awesome two days that's for sure. If you could somehow book it into a 3 or 4 Day Rd. trip and maybe do a little rail bird shooting or fishing along the way it would probably be worth it.

    NDR: Table pour

I've done a few. The biggest concerns are making sure you contain your epoxy and I do mean contain. It will seep out the smallest crack. Also give any raw wood edges a pre-coat first. This helps eliminate air bubbles which are always a pain. Use a heat gun (best) or torch to level and remove...
