    Reelfoot lake Incident

Eric, I think all true sportsmen want to see violators held accountable. You're not alone. We are all equally frustrated. That frustration is no small reason for the changes that have been proposed for the blind assignments. It has been common practice among some groups to offer very large sums...

    Reelfoot lake Incident

Eric Michael That is why my earlier post included stiff penalties for those that try and deprive others. I have been told Reelfoot has one game warden and it was even suggested he "sees" things from the locals point of view. If true, that right there is where you start. I don't have the...

NDR- Gun Control Bill - Congress - proposed

I'd say it's very appropriate as this bill is likely the "decoy" so we thank the government for not going further when it further restricts our right to bear arms. This bill is too absurd to pass as written but it may well be where negotiations start.

    Reelfoot lake Incident

Reelfoot is definitely the exception to the rule. Freelancing at reelfoot is unfortunately strongly discouraged by locals however they can.

    Reelfoot lake Incident

Eric, I agree-but all these blind sites have historically been season long draw blinds where 1 party has exclusive use of it as long as 1 member is there prior to legal shooting time- no spontaneity. If you weren't drawn, you could ride around to a vacant blind and hope a party member doesn't...

    Reelfoot lake Incident

Eric, I think the goal with the restructuring is to get away from so many rules except on the sites where conflict will be inevitable- most will be temp blind/boat blind, and the best holes will be assigned through the computer draw so hunters will have assurances that they can hunt a good spot...

    Reelfoot lake Incident

Privately held blinds don't change over to state blinds until the registered owner passes, same as always. These proposed changes are designed to address other issues.

    Reelfoot lake Incident

This is something the commission had been interested in and had been in the works for a while. Reelfoot will actually be one of the least effected WMAs, mainly for safety reasons.

    Reelfoot lake Incident

At reelfoot you shoot at high birds, long birds, and high and long birds, so cripple chases are inevitable. Most keep a beater "cripple gun" in the boat so they don't have to step from the blind to the boat with a gun and back again every time it happens, hence the second gun. It would be an...

    Reelfoot lake Incident

These new details certainly make me think twice, no 3 times, about allowing a stranger to hunt with me.

    Reelfoot lake Incident

What I've heard is this was an ongoing feud if you will between neighboring blinds over shooting swing birds. Hunting on Reelfoot is largely limited to large, permanent blinds spaced out every 200-300 yards or so. There are some legacy private blinds still in private ownership but as the owners...

    Reelfoot lake Incident

I've been following the situation and from what I've read, 2 adjacent blinds had a bit of a running dispute and the one guy saw a chance to settle it. TBI has a manhunt underway now. 2 dead, another wounded, and the shooter in the wind.

What is in your bag? January 2021

Ducks are still hard to come by so we changed it up. Killed a few doves flushing hedgerows last week and got a couple rabbits today, flusher style. I've never seen a beagle fetch but that's not an issue with a spaniel.

    recoil comparison

Stock geometry/fit and recoil pad are a big factor too. I have a 308 that weighs less than 7# with a scope and a 270 that weighs 9.5 rigged out. According to a recoil calculator the 308 should be a stomper but it's quite mild while the 270 is much snappier with more felt recoil.

I don't think you'd regret getting a Boykin and you'll have more breeders to pick from in the south. He's my first gun dog to train but is bird crazy and his training is coming along really well.

Rod, it was a local (giant) bird, killed in its county of hatching. The local university has a long term research project and band as many as they can each year so goose bands and collars aren't terribly uncommon around here.

Nobody tell him he's not big enough for geese because he doesn't know it. We got a little jewelry to boot.
