Thanks Vince, But I think the best quality of green wings are illustrated below.

For those who actually savor and enjoy cooking as much as the hunting. Here is a very tasty recipe, coffee rubbed duck. It is very reminiscent of a finely charbroiled steak.

I used Hank Shaw method for crispy frying a skin on duck breast. It is key to getting a delicious crispy skin.

For seasonings I followed the recipe but used Chad Myers paprika blend instead of straight paprika.

Will, not sure if you have any more pics of the side pockets, but they could help figure out if its a hybrid. Our group shot a F1 hybrid earlier this year that looks similar. The belly and side pockets were definitely black duck colored.

RL. I am undecided as it appears that the center tail feathers are missing and likely been molted but not fully replaced. The remaining tail feathers are very worn. The tips appear to be worn and have a retained tip. Juvenile birds usually have the V notch but sometimes the downy tip leaves the rachis. But retained adult feathers could also display that feature.

Looking over the rest of the bird I don?t see much in the way of adult characteristics besides the bill. Adult males should have long ago completed their molt. I?m wondering if it was just a late hatch male that was molting in some of the adult feathers. I?ll bet it was thin and not much fat and maybe muscle. Either way it?s molt was very delayed for either an adult or juvenile.

I'm going to cheat a little and post my son and partner's take from yesterday. I was at the shop helping a friend I owed with a project and missed this three man limit hunt on public grounds. It's been a very slow season. They boys needed some paydirt. By the way, the Devlin Broadbill with hard dodger has proven itself several times now. Great addition to the boat.

Did you get the information back on your bands? I'm curious to know if the larger banded one is from the Giant Mississippi Valley population. We have those migrate through our area in southern Michigan and northern Indiana. We also get the smaller Southern James Bay population geese coming through our area. Congratulations.

If I ever get another dog, I'm going to go with a Boykin or AWS. Love my lab but want a smaller dog if we get another.

Rod, it was a local (giant) bird, killed in its county of hatching. The local university has a long term research project and band as many as they can each year so goose bands and collars aren't terribly uncommon around here.

I don't think you'd regret getting a Boykin and you'll have more breeders to pick from in the south. He's my first gun dog to train but is bird crazy and his training is coming along really well.

I still film quite a bit, not as much this season, but I have a lot of footage that has never made it to YouTube.

The problem with hunting public land and making youtube videos that are quite popular is the internet scouting. I decided to stop burning myself and my friends for the time being. It's a shame, but that's the nature of the game these days.

I don't blame you at all. A friend posted a video of the scaup landing in our decoys after we got our limit. He decided to take it down because our area would have had more hunters than ducks!
