Worst ammo I have ever bought - Remington

I?d like to say I was surprised but one time I patterned Remington?s nitromag turkey loads. I think I?d have a better chance killing the turkey by throwing that shell.

New 10 foot ( Mark Kears) sneakbox update 7-13

That is one beautiful boat I love living in the south, but we don't have squat for gunning/decoy/boat building traditions around here.

    The Blundering Biologist

Steve et al- Do any of you do much prescribed burning north of the Mason-Dixon? I burn what I can weather permitting but shut it down at the beginning of April. No doubt any nests I consumed could be replaced, but laying a clutch of eggs is no small investment, and I'd prefer not to be the cause...

    Moist Soil Management (MSM)

I think there's lots of resistance to moist soil because, as humans, we have an innate need to domesticate everything. the notion of letting an area "grow wild" doesn't come natural to us even when it's perfectly adequate.

    First attempt - diving diver

My best "bobbers'' were weighted in the front and back vs the weight. Distributing the mass to opposite ends should destabilize the decoy and make it more active on the water.

NDR A pretty nice So. Maine buck.

What a fine buck- and for a first deer to boot.

Winter arrived early on the Gulf Coast

I saw skim ice on some farm ponds yesterday in TN. Today I saw my first cranes of the year- they were flying south in droves all day long, and heard mallards, gadwalls, and wood ducks from the tree stand this evening.

    Sandhill crane in NC?

We have a season in TN now and have had counts in excess of 20,000 a couple times around Hiwassee Refuge in SE TN. But we see birds across the state. It's too early to expect them yet, but I hear them and see them flying over the house all winter long.

Has anyone heard anything about CRP acreage in the current budget package?

Correct, and with the current political climate and the hot potatoes in the Farm Bill (food stamps and nutrition programs), there's no telling how long we'll be on a continuing resolution until they decide to pass a new one. The good news about a full acreage cap- as the low quality contracts...

    reloading Tungsten

Most of the folks that sell recipes for turkey handloads will also give you their pressure tested recipes when you buy shot from them. They may have waterfowl load data as well for TSS, but I don't know anyone that is loading for waterfowl. Most I know are roll crimping on a drill press.

    Winter Back!

We are probably looking at the possibility of 7 days straight below freezing- very unusual here this early, and any still water will be frozen solid.

    What’s on the bench - December 2017

Not really decoy/duck related, but I just finished up my european mounts and display from the bucks I was fortunate enough to take this year. Both deer were taken on public land and I found the drift wood on a wade fishing trip a couple years ago near where I killed the first one. Apparently...

Question: Do Southern Wood Ducks Migrate Further South?

Wood ducks are known to be short range migrators- move to an adjacent state based on weather, etc.

    Tennessee Opener

there are, on rare occasions, good hunts to be had on the east end of the state.
  19. M

    Tennessee Opener

Definitely. The smallmouth fishing around here almost makes up for the lack of ducks though. Almost.

Congrats on a couple fine hunts, and way to keep the first things, first. We got the big skunk, but that's no surprise over here. The weatherman has me a little excited for next week though. They keep saying "arctic blast."
