NDR A pretty nice So. Maine buck.

Terrie started hunting with me under the Maine apprentice license three years ago. After that first fall she took the NRA hunter safety course and has been hunting by herself (on days that I am at work) for the past two seasons. Earlier this season she missed a younger buck and was pretty discouraged to think of all those hours afield and she missed her opportunity. You must remember, in Maine, you don't see several deer each time out, you might be lucky to have just one opportunity a season. Anyways, the stars aligned yesterday and Terrie shot her first whitetail deer, a truly magnificent Southern Maine buck.

Shoot, I live in ohio, and that would be a dandy here! Congratulations to you both. You for mentoring, her for harvesting the animal.

WOW!!!!! Congratulations to Terrie! He is a stud first deer!!!!!

FANTASTIC!

Congratulations to Terrie, as well as to you. The future of hunting as a way of life looks very promising indeed.

Just curious, what caliber and bullet?

Very good photo's of "Bringing home the bacon".

I like the sled, and have used many different kinds over the years to drag deer.

Best regards
Vince

I'm with Jon that would be a great deer here in Ohio. I would guess him to go 140/150, get him scored. Congratulations Terrie, you got bragging rights.

Thanks everybody, she is still on cloud nine! Yes, it will be going on the wall. Vince, Terrie shoots a Tikka T3 in 30-06. With both shoot 165grain Nosler Partition shells. Haven't green scored yet although I will most likely rough score it this weekend.

I don't care what state you're from, that's a nice deer!
Congrats to Terrie with a nice wall hanger and to you Troy an being apart of it and sharing it with us

Troy -

I saw the long action of the rifle, and thought either 30-06, or 270. Nosler Partition is also my bullet of choice.

Terrie deserves to be on cloud nine. She Did Good!

Best regards
Vince

Congratulations! Nice deer no matter the State it was taken in. Proof you did a fine job teaching her the ropes...Good Job!

That is an outstanding whitetail. Please congratulate Terrie on taking that trophy. I sure liked seeing those great pictures that you posted.

I know Jeff, I was thinking she may have a chance at the 200lb club, I just don't think he was long enough though, the deer weighed in at 172. More than enough for me to pull out with jet sled.

Congratulations to both you and Terrie, that is a memorable buck in anywhere USA! One suggestion to consider, since Terrie is holding the coat of the guy who dragged that buck out....

He has really stocky lower legs, was the terrain hilly?

We reverse the buck's position in their illustrations, using its hind legs as an aide when pulling them out. These are much easier to guide through rough country and the deer doesn't shift around like it does in a Jet-sled. Rolled-up, these are quite compact and easy to attach to a pack to stash near your stand.

No, you do not want to succeed in the 200lb club. I shot a 4X5 on the last day of the Michigan gun season at ten o'clock in the morning when he came in to a combination of calling and rattling. I had the buck ready to start dragging out around eleven. I walked my pack with my coat and long underwear tied-on and my rifle down the woods run (actually I found out opening morning this was a game run used by a boar beer). I arrived at my vehicle with the deer just before 4:00Pm. He had no hair let in about a five inch swath down his spine from traversing over deadfalls and logs. That was when I discovered I couldn't get the buck up and inside the cargo compartment. I ended-up with him tied-off across my hood at the base of the windshield on my VW Rabbit....which was turquoise; quite a sight for any I passed on the trip in to Cheboygan to get him weighed. He weighed 205lb.

Her buck would easily dominate among this group of Michigan deer!

That's a great first deer, Troy. For the non-Mainers, while people care a little about antlers up here, real bragging rights come from shooting a heavy deer.
