    Duck huntin in Central Kansas?

Craig, welcome to the sunflower state! I moved here from MO a couple years ago to go back to school. I haven't had the time to spend scouting exhaustively, but there are enough ducks around to keep me interested. I've been doing more walk in hunting than I did in MO. Like anywhere, if you're...

    Momarsh fatboy DP

Scott, The owner of MoMarsh posts here from time to time. He's a great guy. All of the boats I've seen have been very well built (both FatBoy and FatBoy DP). I see quite a few as they are built in MO and I hunt the public areas there quite a bit with friends that have MoMarsh boats. Great...

    What about Gators?

I lived in western Arkansas for a year and a half, and was scouting/exploring in SE Oklahoma one summer day. I had located several public areas on the maps that indicated they had open duck hunting so I went off to explore them as potential duck hunting spots. The second or third place I...

    build a fiberglass bbsb

Kris, They came out about 85-90 lbs. We used a bathroom scale, so that may be off by a little, but it gives you a ballpark. Mine was heavier because it was the first one and we were a bit 'liberal' with the resin, especially in the corners at first.

    build a fiberglass bbsb

Christopher, I took the KARA design, cut it off at one end and extended the cockpit back to the last rib, creating a transom. I also raised the bow a little to help keep it from spearing waves, increased the heightthe transom, and angled the combing in slightly to make it easier to pop the...

    build a fiberglass bbsb

Josh, what Tony is describing is the method for making a mold, which allows you to make more than 1 boat. It sounds like he was making a production mold. When I went through the process, the mold we made wasn't nearly that thick. I built my plug the same way you would build the KARA (pine...

    2011 / 2012 "DUCK SEASON" ????????

Due to school responsibilities (I've come to dislike that word :) ) I didn't get to hunt nearly as much this year, and I was jealous hearing the reports from guys where I used to live and how the ducks were thick there the entire season. However, the hunts I had were typically very good. I...

Coco's 1st Trip and My last for the Season

Sounds like you've got it pegged (salt water is a bit scarce here in MO, so I haven't had to deal with that one). Either that or the mental overload "holy cow dad, LOOK AT ALL THE DUCKS OUT HERE..." Enjoy the adventure, and congrats on a good season!

Coco's 1st Trip and My last for the Season

Carl, Congrats! Sounds like a successful first outing. I can't tell from your description if she is 'birdy' (ie, she really LIKES retrieving birds) when you train. Bailey loves to retrieve and goes pretty nuts when I get out bumpers, but her ears go up another notch and she dances around...

    Classifieds

What if the moderators were to add in a different qualification (pehaps time since registration > 21 days) ? (or 10, or however long). That way, if you've been a registered member around here for a while, but don't post much, you would still qualify to post in the classifieds. That would...

NDR - Stuck Ice castle fish shack

If you can get the tires completely above the ruts, can you slide a board under them to allow the trailer to roll out? Sounds like fun!

I thank all of you for your prayers and support

Gary, You've become a part of the DHBP family, and as many others have said above, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers. Scott

    Some people are just nice.

That's awesome Mike, the trip you're on is pretty incredible. I hope your kids know just how lucky they are to have this kind of experience. Have a great Christmas and enjoy celebrating the New Year over there!!! I've enjoyed watching the trip unfold for you all. Scott

Duck boat for a bean field.

Ed, what about a sled something like those that Ira sells? You can throw your layout blind and decoys into it and it floats (they are something like 8' x 3' x 10" deep. Then, you can wade and simply tow all your gear in the sled. You can set the layout blind up inside the sled in that skinny...

Time to stand up and thank our moderators...

This site completely changed the way I hunt. Something like 13 years ago? I knew I wanted to build a boat to get access to places that I simply couldn't walk to, and looking through his Scaup build and then the KARA plans sealed that fate. By 2002, I owned 7 boats for a short period of time...

When you know you should pull the trigger...

For me, and most of the guys I hunt with, it's about fooling the birds. We're perfectly fine letting them go by if they were simply flying over where we happen to be (well, if they are 20 feet up, we will probably shoot, but 30 yds up and cruising by we typically let them pass). I like...

Hunter Safety - Hunter in Utah Shot by his dog while duck hunting

I'm paranoid about that happening. It's easy to remove the shell from the chamber when you leave the boat (though remembering to put it back in can be a challenge some days!!! ) :-) I do like the statement "no ducks where injured" in the article.

anyone have duck jerky/corned duck breast recipes

I've used the Nesco jerky packets with ground up waterfowl and gotten good results. Not exactly a home-made recipe though :-).

    need Beretta AL 390 help

Wis, My 390 is about 10 years old now I believe, and it's been through a LOT. With the dog and Kara-style boats and shallow water, it seems to get wet and muddy and beat up. Last year, I was having cycling trouble culminating in a field hunt with about 40 mallards hovering to my side of the...
