    I love Wood Ducks....

Thanks for the great comments guys. If I have inspired any of you to paint, carve, or think about great memories hunting Wood Ducks, I would say my "decoy" is already doing it's job. Just trying to be an advocate for what someone so aptly coined as "This Movement" back to traditional style...

    I love Wood Ducks....

Wisconsin has a huge population of Wood Ducks. They have been a great success story over the years and provide for a big portion of our opening day enjoyment. Some years openers are slower than others, but if you stick it out all day, chances are you will be rewarded with a few Wood Ducks just...

    Setting Decoy Eyes...a quick tutorial

You guys are welcome. Thanks for the responses. Terry - If you look at the bottom photo...you'll find that the eye is looking right at you! I set them so they are parallel with the surface of the head in that area. They aren't twisted in the opening, up, down, or forward.

    Setting Decoy Eyes...a quick tutorial

Drill a clean hole. I use a brad bit and start with the drill in reverse to cut the perimeter Use two part epoxy to set the eye It hardens quick and the placement of the eye isn't confused by trying to fill at the same time Fill with latex sandable...

    Making Decoys by Grayson Chesser

That book is all I had when I started carving 20 years ago. The rest of it I figured out on my own, but the craft of constructing a working decoy is right there in that book. I think carvers starting out should begin with the basics and not move on to complications and confusion until they can...

Brandon - I like the consistent and unique eye groove on those mergs. That's an elemnt of your style. It ties the whole group together and brands them. Nice Wish I could be prolific as George...can't wait for "retirement" to decoys full time. Also good to see new folks trying their hand at...

    Happy Decoys

Great to see them in action. Nothing like seeing a MLBob hen on the water. She looks like she's gonna get up and fly away.

It's because their little backs are a tough nut to crack, but it looks like you nailed it. Bring him to Strongsville and we'll throw him in the pool while we're breaking the place in....
