Headed east today to the LI decoy collectors annual show. They had a great display of decoys and other antique sporting collectables. I picked up a book "Duck Decoys" How to Make Them,How to Paint Them, How to Rig Them by Eugene V. Connett...1953, cool book. Here are a few pics from today...

Thanks a lot guys, you have given me some great ideas on how to get started drawing up my own pattern. This is a prime example of why we have the best site on the net....The folks involved here are always willing to "lend a hand"

OK, I am new to carving, never carved a decoy before. When you draw up a pattern, how do you know what size to make it? The length, width of the body and head. Is there a book that gives dimensions of the different species? Do you guys just "wing it"? :):)

Tuckerton Seaport Museum has some great old Punts and during the Tuckerton Waterfowl Festival they have the old punts out on the lake at the park. The park is where most of the vendors and competitions take place. During the course of the weekend they fire the big bores mounted to the front of...

So Keith, Do you make a painting of your decoy before you begin to carve, or is it all "upstairs"???

Pat, In the first picture...Is that about how thick you leave the block?? I am new to this whole decoy carving world and was just wondering. I think it is great that you have working tools from your grandpa and have carried on the family traditions. Always love your work.

Howard, What type of boat is the 17 footer?? I am always impressed with the boats that you build for the different waterfowl organizations to aid them is raising funds. Great work for sure. I would love to see more of your work.
