    rescue dog?

Neal, I have some experience with adopted gun dogs. Five years ago, my wife and I adopted an AWS that had been severely abused and neglected. He showed no indication that he had been trained and, even at 2 y/o, he didn't know his name. Obviously, my expectations were low and I decided...

    9 month old chessie female

Pretty little girl, Rich! Kudos to you and your wife for fostering her. Several times I've considered adopting a 'Peake and have nothing but admiration for the folks in the chessie rescue network. Good luck placing her.

Anyone have any experience with Orvis Sonic Seam waders?

Orvis has burned me in the past on breathable waders. Read the fine print. In my experience, they offer a limited warranty with declining coverage on waders. LL Bean waterfowl waders can't be beat. I've used their breathable models for years. Yes, I've had them fail, but they've replaced...

    Labs ACLs

Tim, my pup went through this when he was four. He tore the ACL in his left knee while we were doing pattern blinds over obstacles. I saw everything unfold -- high arcing jump, landing on uneven ground, and a buckling knee. With fanatical PT, my pup was hunting in 11 weeks. As soon as he...

    need help, have questions

Chris, Last year, I rebuilt the transom on my BBSB with WEST System. I hated it! It blushed like crazy. WEST's fillers are outstanding, however. I'd recommend non-blushing epoxies such as System Three Silvertip or RAKA (w/non-blushing hardener). System Three is big $, while RAKA is...

    Question for you Vt guys...

Sorry about that guys! With this weather we've been having, I must still be stuck in April. Time to flip the calendar page.

    Question for you Vt guys...

I received an e-mail from Crenshaw today. It looks like the meeting was cancelled. They've re-scheduled it for May 3rd. If you e-mail Bill, I'm sure he'll send you the meeting announcement.

    my new ride

Sarge, Meticulously clean the interior before sanding. I've had good luck starting with a detergent degreaser (TSP?) followed by either denatured alcohol, acetone, or lacquer thinner. Lou Tisch is a big fan of lacquer thinner. Once the surface is clean then you can sand. There are a...

    Fuel line on a BBSB

Notice how the above setup is almost 18" above the waterline. That's pretty safe. I wouldn't do that in a BBSB. Again, I'd recommend either using a sealed pass-through or leaving the fuel line laying across the deck.

    Fuel line on a BBSB

Chris, The grommet/seal assemblies you mentioned are neat. I'd consider those if my boat had a motor well and I could mount them on a vertical surface.

    Fuel line on a BBSB

A BBSB is seaworthy because the fore and aft decks, along with the cockpit coaming, shed water. Why would you purposely create an entry point for water on the aft deck? The hose barbs essentially are thru-bolted through the deck. A male threaded barb can be seen here...

    Fuel line on a BBSB

A hole in the rear deck is a bad idea. Male and female brass hose barbs seated over brass flat washers and a dab of marine sealant is a good idea. Make sure to double hose clamp. The fuel line won't be portable, but the tank will be.

    young lab

Derreck, Did you follow a systematic program to force fetch the pup? Skip any steps? I've only force fetched one dog. Following a set plan, it took about 6 weeks to complete. Each day we built on the previous day's session. And ultimately, we repeated the lessons in different settings...
