    With all this rail talk

I went rail hunting (marsh henning) on the Eastern Shore a couple of weekends ago. All three of us limited out with 15 each. It was great! Having never hunted them before, my father-in-law let me take point. We poled and walked the marshes. I wish I had a photo of the results but I was afraid to...

BACK TO THE BB III BUILD

Looking good Charlie! Looks like we are in the same boat (sorry I coudn't resist). I haven't been able to get to do much lately. I am working the inside from the bottom up. I measured out the floor support beam and the floorboard. Tonight I lofted the measurements onto the plywood. Cutting...

Her she is naked as a Jay Bird.

Shermie - I got the aluminum stock from Lowes. Standard 3/4" by 8' lengths. I plan on tapering down the leading and trailing edge and leaving the edge down the length of it sharp. The stock was less than $10 a piece i believe.

Her she is naked as a Jay Bird.

Thats a pretty girl you have there! Nice job on the combing too. Very professional and out of the mold smooth. Just wait to see the differance it makes with the paint on. Kills me to cover up that wood though. That just makes more of a case for building something a little more showy next time...

Painting the hull, pictures and questions

You guys are making me envious! I have fallen a little behind due to work and travel. I have all my epoxy on and just need to scuff it up to accept the paint. I'm planning on spraying the FME #28 Dead Grass Green on. Charlie - How many coats did you end up putting on? Looking Great...

    Transom edges

Thanks guys. Dave, you explained it perfectly and your right about the free advice thing too. I was going to say something about it being great coming from someone so experienced and wise but I though I should get to know you better before jumping on the age bandwagon. ;) Wait a minute...I think...

    Transom edges

I was getting ready to "sharpen" the trailing edge of my transom and started to question if I needed to. I don't have too much roundover and was wondering how sharp of an edge is needed. From the pics you can see that I would only be adding about 3/16" of thickened epoxy. Makes me worry about it...

    Finished fillet on keelsons

Charlie/Brandon - Bending around the bow was one of the major deciding factors when I chose the "Bolt" method. My keels are at 1"x3/4" and bent pretty smoothly. I wasn't sure about using the straps around the boat. My concern was putting too much pressure (pulling/squeezing) on the sides. My .02.

    BBIII update Part 2

FME #28 Dead Grass Green. I'm planning on only painting a base coat for this season and trying out different concealment methods. I'm also seriously considering spraying the paint using a airless sprayer (Wagner) as Lou suggests in his catalog instructions. Darn it. I have to go out and purchase...

    BBIII update Part 2

My first thread was getting a little too long so I thought I would start a new one. The keels are on! I attatched mine differently than Eric did on his Scaup build from the main page. I used bolts to draw down the keel on the curve. Placing the 1" x 3/4" African Mahogany between the...

    filling the weave question.

Andrew - the whole time I was laying out the cloth and contemplating the overlap thing I was thinking of you standing there saying, "Your gonna be sorrrry!" ;)

    Brandon’s Black Brant III build.

Looking great man! Isn't it great to see the boat in another setting other than on the work table? My friend and I carried it out of the garage and it looked so different. I was secretly hoping everyone in the neighborhood would come out of their houses and gawk in amazement. No one even drove...

    BBIII update

Thanks guys. It means a lot coming from a bunch of great guys such a yourselves. Charlie - I really think that I was lucky. I did get some drips here and there on the concrete but I consider them garage character building. "Hey what is all over your floor? I looks like someone spilled...

Thanks for the tip Kenmack. I'll be using that one!

    BBIII update

Well the glass is on the hull. Took me about 2-2.5 hours to complete the entire wet out. I ended up not putting the seam on the keel like I planned. I got to thinking about it when I laid the glass out and thought it would be better to have more layers at the keel area. I overlapped the 8in tape...

Can it be done - glassing the hull?

I was able to do it myself too. The only help I got was putting down the other side once I wet out the other. It kept on sticking and I wasn't able to easily move the cloth around to position it. Like Pete said, just make sure you have everything orginized and ready to go. It took me about 2-2.5...

    Brandon’s Black Brant III build.

Brandon - Looking good man! After finishing my filleting on the inside I had to flip it over to move onto something different. Really...I couldn't wait to see the hull shape! Moving on to the carpentry part of it is a great change of pace. Doing the wood work and building something that...

    BBIII update

Hey guys! I did the very same thing. I taped and then sanded the edges down to meet the wood with a nice taper. You can see that I even went a little too much in some spots when you look at the second photo in post #32. Here is what I am banking on...when I lay the layer of glass and wet it...

    BBIII update

Moving on now.... Shaped chines. Ready for the tape. All taped up and a layer of epoxy applied to entire surface. Its way to pretty to have to paint! Its a shame. Ready for the layer of cloth. Using one layer of 6oz cloth. The biggest threat we have around here are oyster...
