    Pintail back feathers

Perfect photo of those tail coverts (or whatever they're called) that I'm looking for. The very last feathers before the actual tail feathers. Thanks so much! Gary Here are two of the flies, the Counterfeiter, that show the feather I'm looking for. It's used as the cheek in this streamer...

    Pintail back feathers

It likely is the same streamer, Jeff. Just want to tie a few true to the original. Gary

    Pintail back feathers

Just the pointed ones, Rick. I have a pretty good supply of the more rounded flank feathers. They are for a fly called the Counterfeiter, designed by Bob Veverka. Gary

    Pintail back feathers

I will happily trade some flies, or at the very least, pay postage, for these feathers from a pintail's back. There aren't many of them. They are for a specific fly I tie for landlocked salmon. Thanks, and please PM me if you can help. The feathers: Gary

    dog names

I have a friend up in New Brunswick that named his new setter puppy Stella. If you've ever seen the play, "Death of a Salesman", you'll understand why it will be funny to hear him yelling her name in the grouse woods. I also have an acquaintance that named his Brittany "Leon". I can't explain...

    OT--Time for Generator

Probably 15 years ago I bought a Troy-built, 6,000 surge watt generator powered by a B&S engine. It sits outside, covered by a tarp. It will go, and often does, months at a time without being started. It starts on the first pull every time. It cost around $800 back then. I had bought it for...

NDR (although there are a few black ducks!) 3 weeks of fall salmon fishing

some of you might enjoy at least the scenery, if not the fish, in my latest blog post: http://theriverscourse.blogspot.com/2017/11/miramichi-salmon-camps-fall-2017.html Gary

So Sick and Tired of Invasive Plants

As primarily an upland hunter, I'd like to add an invasive that is screwing up my bird covers everywhere: Tartarian Honeysuckle (Lonicera tatarica). Hate the stuff. Gary

    The Yellowstone List

I've always loved fishing the Firehole. Lots of geothermal features to marvel at, not many bears, just keep an eye out for bison. Lucky you! Gary

    Pneumatic finish/brad nailers...Not Duck Related...

Just a thought, but the best thing I did in a long time was to switch from air nailers (requiring a hose from the compressor) to Paslode's cordless, angled finish nailer. I used to work in some pretty spiffy homes, and dragging that hose around - and making sure it didn't screw up the floors...

The Fun in Getting Ready to Go

Ah, sweet preparations! Doesn't matter if it's a duck or grouse hunt, or getting ready to go salmon fishing...I also savor the time getting ready. I've been known to start three weeks before a trip. Hope you have a great exploration (and I'd be staying in that motel, too.)! Gary

    Outboard thoughts?

For years I ran a 25hp Merc 2 stroke on my 14' Lund. Several years ago, after shoulder surgery, I decided pull start was a thing of the past for me. Bought a 15 merc 4 stroke with electric start...really love not wearing and tearing on my shoulder anymore. Same reason I switched to 2-handed...

    Journals

A thread on another forum got me thinking about my hunting/fishing journals. The farthest back mine go is, I think, 1981, when I was a grad student at the University of Tennessee. They progress from there to the mid-80's, when I was a grad student studying ruffed grouse on the Tug Hill...

One Maine Woodcock finds some worms

I lived on the Tug Hill Plateau (NY) for 10 years (85-95); moved there to do graduate work on ruffed grouse. I remember well Feb. 15, 1985...my major professor was driving me around my study area and, on a little hummock along an interior road stood a woodcock. We were quite amazed; the...
