Largest Motor for a Devlin Broadbill

David, My Yamaha came stock with a 9-1/4 by 11 pitch. Have not yet tried a 12 p to verify, but based on rpm's (I installed a tini-tac), I think a 12 pitch would be ideal. May yet get one this summer and give it a try. Take care! -Bill

Largest Motor for a Devlin Broadbill

David, You are going to really like the Yamaha 15. It probably will come with a 11 pitch prop, which pushes my Broadbill at 25mph. The engine is maxed on RPMs, so there is probably more speed to be had by going to a 12 pitch. Take care! -Bill

Largest Motor for a Devlin Broadbill

David, I would not go over 15hp, which is the max amount that was listed on Devlin's web page. Like others have said, there are still a few new 15hp yamaha 2-strokes around, and plenty used. I'm running a 15hp yamaha 2-stroke on my Broadbill, which is more than enough. -Bill

    BBIII Building progress and questions

David, Great to see you have the kids involved. It definitely adds to the memories! My vote is for the cut out later, too. If you do not want to cut the full rear bulkead out of "good" wood, you can cut out the sponson ends and hold them in line with a jig until the epoxy cures. -Bill

    Black Brant III Build

Daryl, I have a White machine and used 16ga and 18ga needles w/ nylon upholstry thread (available at Walmart and most sew/craft shops) on Cordura 1000- up to 4 layers no poblem. There have been discussions on the UV resistance of nylon thread on this site before, but I've not had any issues...

    Built a bandsaw tonight...

Sweet. And to think I've been using a $450 Grizzly 14 inch to do the same thing....

    Gonna miss the opener....

Carl, Amazing what a pain it can be to get a Fed stamp. I too waited until the day before our opener, and found out the closest post office was out. They were kind enough to tell me they had more on order and I could check back in a week or two. Fortunately, one of the other post offices in...

    Scaup Project F/S

Good- glad to hear you were able to move it. I could really use a Snow Goose, not a Scaup, but you were REALLY tempting me..... -Bill

    Gunnel decoy storage help

All, Thinking about making some slotted gunnel decoy storage bags for the BB2. Any recommendations on material? I used Cordrua 1000 for the dodger and side curtains. Based on how well the 1000 has held up, I am considering dropping to 500 for the decoy storage, but was wondering what others...

    Ducks on a stick...

I like the idea of using something like that for hunter's ed (and law enforcement training, too). Seen too many classes and hungting regs where the duck ID material is an artists rendintion on newspaper quality paper. -Bill

    Painting plastic decoys

I too have problmes with paint on my GHG Green Wing teal, especially the drakes. Solved the problem by switching to G&H decoys (Cablellas may still have them on sale). I think GHG look better out of the box, but G&H look a whole lot better after as season or two as they hold their paint and...

Water in Yamaha 25 Lower Unit Question for outboard mechanics : (

All, Thanks- the comments here really helped. Richard got me thinking when he said pressure test, so I did a little more research on that subject. With this set up and 15 lbs of pessue, a bubble burps out of the water intake every minute or so, which I think confirms the problem is the input...

Water in Yamaha 25 Lower Unit Question for outboard mechanics : (

All, Decided to do a little pre-season maintenance on the 2004 Yamaha 25 HP 2-stroke that powers my BB2, and when I drained the lower unit oil had a good bit of water come out. Have never noticed so much as an oil stain around the prop shaft area. Does this indicate that the leak is from the...

    Reloading with universal charge bar

Rob, In the past I reloaded a fair amount with MEC 9000G's (have 12-20-28 and .410), and tried universal bars for both lead and steel. They work ok, but it does take some time and fiddling to get them set up. I was always worried the set screw had come loose or something moved, so I weighed...

Thought about buying a Jeep Cj?

Brian, I used to own a '79 CJ5 with a 304 V8 and 3-speed, and have spent a little time behind the wheel of a CJ7 w/straight 6 and 4 speed, a 1960 something CJ5, as well as some of the old 4-cylinder flat fender jeeps. They are all fun for offroad use. I think the "newer" CJ's (72 and newer...

    Pile O' Parts

Tom, Great looking pile of dekes. Where/what brand of molds are you using? Are they magnum or regular sized? I've been carving divers out of pink foam and burlapping- way too much work! Thanks, Bill

    Cordura for Spray Dodgers?

I built my dodgers, side compartment curtains, roll-top cockpit covers, and eningine cover out of Cordura 1000D. It has held up extremely well, although the camo pattern has started to fade a little. -Bill

    longlines question

Mike, I use 5" longline snaps that are tied to a 3' dropper, which are tied to the deke. Main lines are 1/4" braded nylon rope. The clips hold tight to the rope, so there is no real need for loops. I do put in an overhand knot at 20' from the front so that I know about where to start...

Two Stroke or Four ... Help a Preacher Out?

David, I am definitely a fan of the 2-stroke Yamaha, both for power and weight. Have a great season! -Bill
