2 kids in a candy store...

Great collection! Who made the bluebill pair in the center of third pic from the bottom? Is there a way we could get more shots of those? Something about those appeal to me greatly.

Name this boat and you will Win one.

I like simple names. To me it looks and sounds like "The Slipper".

    Cleaning Decoys?

I used spray on foamy engine brite or tire cleaner for several years. Brings back out the color in decoys. Don't do this if you like dull decoys because this will put a shine on them.

Killing fuzzy mold in a decoy?

Order was placed in 2008. Got the order in 2010. Cut out and carved a month ago. Wood was very dry and boards were 2" thick. Strange that some birds from the same board had it and some did not. There is an explanation for it but I just don't know what it would be.

Killing fuzzy mold in a decoy?

If I am not mistaken the wood was cut in the winter. It was air-dried in the attic of my shop.

Killing fuzzy mold in a decoy?

Thanks for the replies! I took the whole rig apart and checked each one. Most had it but some didn't. The hen to the first decoy did not have any and she was cut from the same board as the first decoy. These were carved and hollowed last month and show no signs of checking or warping. Strange...

Killing fuzzy mold in a decoy?

Just opened another and it has white mold in it too. These look like tiny cotton balls.

Killing fuzzy mold in a decoy?

I hollowed out a white cedar wood duck decoy and in the process tore out a small chunk of wood. I screwed it back together until I was ready to finish it out. I put the decoy on the floor with the rest that I had hollowed out. My shop has a gap under the door that creates a draft on windy days...

    Question on checks in cedar.

Thanks for the replies! Daddy Mike, I hope I can get some more of this stuff in the future. Despite the one board with cheeks in it, it really has been great carving it.

Titebond III for laminating hollow decoys?

I am trying to get away from ordering epoxy if I can and I have read all types of reviews that say Titebond III is a stronger glue than epoxy. The glue is not that old so I don't expect anyone to chime in with 20 year old results but would like some opinions on it. Do you use it and is so how...

    Question on checks in cedar.

I started cutting out several decoys today and one 7 foot run of board had a couple of checks running the length of the board on one side. This board has no knots in it at all and I can get a few bodies out of it if it weren't for the checks. I would be able to use it for smaller decoy heads but...

    Bottom Boards and Grain?

Thanks for the replies! I carve the majority of my bodies with hand tools and I know about the grain and all. My figuring was that I rarely get into the bottom board with the hand tools so if I was to run the grain straight on the top board that I wouldn't have any problems at all with the...

    Bottom Boards and Grain?

Thanks for the reply. I knew there was no benefit from doing it this way other than gaining extra bodies per board but I wonder if there would there be any negatives?

    Bottom Boards and Grain?

When it comes to wood I like to try to get the most out of it that I can. I saw a video on Youtube where it appears that the decoy maker angled the top view pattern on his 2" bottom boards to get the most out of the wood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6obRM__Ko4 Does anyone else do...

    anbody dye parachute cord

We used to dye nets and other items by boiling black walnuts. That was several years ago and the nets have never needed touching up. Googling should have a recipe.
