OARLOCK STANCHIONS for a South Bay Duckboat

Good morning, All~ This is a long post about oarlock stanchions. I have restored and customized a bunch of South Bay Duckboats - and finally was asked to set one up for rowing. I was happy to do so - because I would not leave terra firma in any small vessel that did not have a truly reliable...

    Sanford Gunning Box?

Richard~ That's right on the money! It underscores the difference - at least in Cap'n Sticker Fussbudget's lexicon - of the distinction between a pond box and a gunning coffin (aka meadow box, gunning box). Another example of why every gunner needs a fleet! All the best, SJS

Anthony~ Sounds like a fine morning. (Still no ducks hereabouts....) Any surprises with the vessel? All the best, SJS

This Season's Project.. 1928 Benjamin Hallock Gunning Scooter

Anthony~ As much as I love the Scooter, that Garvey is exactly what I would have if I were still on the Island. Perfect size with the perfect dodger. Got a small seat for when big seas tell you to get down a bit lower? Also, will you cover the little Merc - or hide it in the Garvey? I once...

    Sanford Gunning Box?

Anthony~ Got LOA and beam for the Higbee? I remember when I first saw this box (a year or so again?) that the cockpit opening is aft of the bow (forward transom). That would certainly help move the center of mass aft - so she would be more likely to trim better along her length. (I still...

    Sanford Gunning Box?

Young Man~ As you know from long experience with Cap'n Stickler Fussbudget, correct terminology is paramount - at least when it entails boats.... Thus, it must be noted that "tipsy" refers to a state of inebriation. You may mean "tippy" - but that is a lubberly adjective to be avoided...

    Sanford Gunning Box?

Good morning, Troy~ If you are going to tempt Fate...make your box full length. I usually make mine as "long" as I am - 5'10" and rest the soles of my boots on the transom. However, I have made others as long as the plywood would allow - for my taller guests. Nevertheless, I hope your pond...

This Season's Project.. 1928 Benjamin Hallock Gunning Scooter

Anthony~ Great job all around! So nice to see that the Amityville Small Craft Rehabilitation Center (aka Babich Boatworks?) is offering its own "spa treatments" these days. I like what you have done with the stool rack. Although the version you based it on made sense with the large round...
