    Coastal Black Duck Rig

I've never understood the want for hen mallard decoys, especially in field decoys. The mallards out here like to tuck up near or under overhanging Russian Olives. When you drive along the river all you see is the light grey and black of the drakes, you don't even see hens. Black ducks just...

    Coastal Black Duck Rig

excellent. It looks like they did the trick. The last time I shot a black duck was in 1984, the first time was 1978 with none inbetween. I still use black duck decoys instead of mallards even out here in the west where there aren't any.

    All Things Flocking

i might fool around with the grey over white just to see. I can use it on some of the stuff I paint white over anyway You know what it's like to flock white over white, it's still not white/white. This might be worth the try. It will no doubt help with airbrushing, much easier to go dark...

    All Things Flocking

I'm fooling around with some more grey colors in flocking to get my mallard drakes a little more late season. I like the contrast. The middle one is from over a year ago and done with goose grey over half and half smoke grey and white rustoleum. It took a lot of white airbrush to get it as...

    Not dad's foamers

I only used a lucky duck spinner a few years about 20 years ago other than on dry grain fields. Never had much use for one in water. We had good movement with the old river keel design, but the Reinikeel is a massive improvement to the design. The side to side doesn't rock the decoy like the...

    All Things Flocking

a little field testing today with another friend who had never diver hunted nor hunted over flocked decoys. He was pretty stunned by how down the barrel the ducks were decoying. He got some of those high speed crossing shots into the wind and learned all about the difference between putting...

    Eye options

Excellent. There is a learning curve with just about every new thing we do. I started using apoxie sculpt back in my fish taxidermy days and find all kinds of applications for it. The cost of the cabochons is so inexpensive for glass and they are durable. I scrap the overspray paint off of...

    January workbench

we haven't been cold so far this winter, no ice to make the divers migrate. My shop is a three car garage with a very leaky double door, the single door is sealed well. I have a 220 heater too, but it's more or less there to keep things from freezing. If the temp is 20 outside it will be 54...

    All Things Flocking

I'm really liking the colors I'm getting on the goldeneye hens. on the flank it's the standard goose grey all the way up to the head. On the back and tail I tried something different with dark feather grey over black rustoleum. The head is brown over brown, I wished there was a more caramel...
