I got to do a little field testing this morning. The barrows decoys were on the bench yesterday, in the water today. We had out a dozen commons and and 5 barrows decoys, only shot one barrows hen, but had to bug out at 10:30. The weatherman was promising 20 mph wind, and we do have that now...

50 below can really get your attention, but usually it's calm out, when the wind starts to blow it's usually warming up, but that's a relative term. I'm pretty good up to 25 below, still could walk a trapline or shoot grouse if the gun will still fire. Driving around the block to round out...

    All Things Flocking

my best guess is I flock about 500 decoys a year. As far as gadwalls go, oil based paint pens are your friend for painting the chest and vermiculation.

    All Things Flocking

Flocking day, I flocked first coats on 16 of these this morning. Here is how I decide on the color for first coats. Whatever flocking I have the most of which is brown and whatever paint I have the most of, which is brown. In other words, it really doesn't matter, the first coat is mainly the...

    All Things Flocking

If I remember correctly I think the calf was going to be a predator calling decoy. My dad shot some snow geese one time probably in the 40's by walking beside a horse drawn hay wagon into a field of snow geese. I never asked, but always wondered how the ride was in the wagon after the shots...

From Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SFGNMJ5?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_4&th=1 I was needing eyes that were clear so I could custom color a few pairs of Oldsquaw eyes. I bought some clear eyes from a taxidermy supply and they looked exactly the same as these cabochons...

Apoxie Sculpt is the way I have set my eyes forever, Almost all of my decoys are foam, even the heads. Once burlapped I'll drill a shallow hole the size of the eye and press the eye into the hole. Since I paint my own eyes, I don't put anything behind them, just smooth out a little ball of...
