    All Things Flocking

Mark, I printed that picture you posted with the redheads, especially the hen head and it kind of changed my approach to the hens. I'm not there yet, but getting closer. I want to try some rustoleum rusty metal primer under my buff/brown flocking mix and see if I can get closer on the base color.

thanks Mark, like I said in another post, these are pretty basic colors for a black duck and no hand painting or paint pen flecking. I think they are probably as good or more effective than some of the crazy detailed decoy. There really is no way to tell the difference in heads from highly...

    Black duck head

You black looks great. The entire object is to get a duck swimming around in the decoys. Working decoys is a whole different thing than worrying about the decorative part. I was a flat artist long before I started carving wood, so the painting part is just something I enjoy. To be honest...

We would hear that whistling half way back to town in the truck after a morning of hunting GE. Barrows have a different sound to their whistle than commons, a lower buzzing whistle, maybe a richer sound, we have lots of barrows around and have had for 20 years, maybe more. People don't notice...

    Black duck head

If you are painting a smooth surface decoy whether it's a slick of fine feathering. You don't want to use oil based paint pens, they are strictly what I use for flocked decoys. They are glossy on smooth surfaces, but not on flocking. So if it's a smooth surface, it's better to paint by hand...
