It has been brought to my attention that I misstated a gift decoy as a "payment." A friend was kind enough to give me the skins off of two smaller Canadian Geese he had shot, knowing as a carver I could use them, and if he didn't give me the skins (after breasting the geese out), that they...

I'll post up some cork bobtails I made in 2012. They are not great as art, but they work like carzy on the water...... I made "gift" gunning decoys from 1997 until 2011, then my son talked me into making som actual gunners to hunt over. That and the fact I took a couple of classes from...

Wouldn't let me post my decoys in the carving section so here....

I am glad you are so comfortable in your decoy carving skin.....Damn, maybe you are a reincarnation of Joe Wooster's spirit. PM me with info on the eye and cost per pair. I don't mind painting them and am really looking for reasonably priced eyes for gunners........... Thanks in advance...

Congrats on a great start. I wish my first heads had been half as good as yours. You have just taken the first steps down a road you will love! One of the most useful foredom accessories I own are the padded drum sander sold by the duckblind (willey Mcdonald). The carbide burrs allow...

Ted, Mark, Vince, Ed, Wispete, et al.......You are all right, and that is one of the things I love about this site. The diversity of viewpoint and experinces keep us all honest, and able to laugh at ourselves. I wanted to start a conversation, and it seems I succeeded. There have been...

Happy New Year what's on your workbench

why couldn't you use the foam itself for the heads too, if done like INVADM decoys where the bill of the decoy does not stick over the chest, and seems to be almost buried into the body. When I do my foam rig of flatties this summer, I am at least going to try making the heads from foam too...

Forgive me for not getting the quote and reply functions correctly used......I wanted to include Mark's post so I could reply directly to it. In some respects, you are right Mark. If your goal is to have a picture on your office wall portraying you as a skilled fly fisherman who was wily...

bless any of you who are inspired to write and share traditional viewpoints of sportsmanship and waterfowling..... I think that is one of the things I love most about a lot of the great waterfowling and fishing story tellers/authors of the past, was that they were average people telling...

Well C. J., I look forward to hearing that story. I have had several monikers besides "Ol' Coppershot" and "Shakira" and "Killer", but most of the rest are not suitable for a family site...... And I don't consider some of the disrespectful and profanity laced names I have been called by...

Hey Wispete, I think you have the spirit when you suggest, "You are right Mike. We have to pray for those black hooded heathens with the spinners. Bring them out of the dark side. I would say more but this is a family site." Well said.........now we just need to find a few passionate...

MLBob Furia's posting of Joe Wooster's account of his Stuttgart experiences made me ask a very serious question: What the heck happened to that style of writing, especially in terms of waterfowling? I know we all need the technical stuff about how to rig decoys, call ducks, and make a goose...

    the new guy

Welcome to the site. I like the style of your decoy carving, and I like the neatness and style of your paint patterns. Lots of good information here, and I am looking forward to your contributions. I just retired my 870 Magnum to the closet last season (about 40 years old and 248,372...

    flattie decoys

Lee L. PM'ed me on trestle coating, and having seen his decoys and seen their durability, I can vouch that his system works. He paints thinned tight Bond (with water) on the decoy, then sprinkles saw dust over the glue, when dry, he brushes off the loose sawdust and recoats with the glue again...

    flattie decoys

I am going down to Steve's on April 26th. If he doesn't post up pics of them, I'll take some and post them up. I might even try to borrow one to bring back to WI. If I do, I'll bring it over to Green Bay sometime and you can handle one................ Mike

    flattie decoys

Long before aqua suc decoys Animal trap wooden decoys and pascagoula wooden decoys were offered in a model hollowed from the bottom on the spindle lathes that made the bodies with a strip of solid wood left running down the middle of the decoy for keel weight and anchor line fasteners. The idea...
