Marsh Stake for Staking out Boat during Tide Change

When I hunted like this in Mobile, where the tides are only ~1-2', I just planted the bow anchor very well, put out enough rode to make sure it stayed stuck, and let her float.

Any Bankers or Loan Officers Here?

This is a tough situation. Back when local banks were actually local, knowing the bank staff could get you around this. It did for me. BUt times of have changed. Any chance he is eligible for USAA membership, via parent or grandparent? This is a good lesson in modern economics and credit...

    Halloween

Great story, as always! I'm not a big "dog person" but I still think all of us have a dog that changed their life, or was their best friend, at some point in life.

Need advice on shooting a .410 for ducks this year to reduce recoil

I have no experience on this topic but had to add that this kind of thread is why we all love the DHBP. New guy comes on with a question that on some sites would generate a lot of pushback and criticism. Not here! Here we have knowledgeable hunters & reloaders, who know loads, the science side...

    black walnuts

I learned to wear gloves after taking the outer husks off a batch of walnuts to use the husks as trap dye. My fingers were tan and brown for months! We have lots of pecan trees down here but walnut trees are few and far between.

Does anybody hunt out of a 20' modified jon?

I'll note that my Smokercraft in an older hull (1987) has the center bench remover and a floor installed. Their Alaskan TS DLX 15 is a walk-through center bench hull, very nice looking boat: https://smokercraft.com/showroom/2025/utility-boats/alaskan/15-ts-dlx

Does anybody hunt out of a 20' modified jon?

Define open water? I hunted out of my Smokercraft for years on Mobile Bay and Mississippi Sound. Deep, wide and stable. Before that I used a Lowe 1440 mv jon, not as deep or stable but performed well in the same waters. https://www.loweboats.com/hunt-fish/jon/tiller/l1440m-jon.html Take a...

    Yet another question

How about cutting a slit into a pole noodle, putting the noodle over the drive shaft, then place a couple of tie down straps around the entire rig? Just dont tighten too much or you could bend the shaft.

    De-Shining webbing - DB13 Dodger

Nope, comes in a small spray can. Testors Dull Coat. I used it back in the day when I built my flock of 1:48 scale WWII aircraft. It was great to use unless you sprayed in very high humidity and it hazed over the entire topside of your newly completed Corsair. Dont ask how I know.....

    Help Identifying Layout Boat

Yep, Looks like one of Lou's boats. A 22hp mud motor would be way over powered. It's only rated for a 6 hp outboard. Aren't these displacement hulls? Looks like someone set this up to hunt is as a marsh boat. Did they plug the hole for the sculling oar in the stern? Not that it wouldn't work...
