    Sheldrake, 12’ sneakbox

Thank you. I was not aware of the book. The photos I have seen from the Yachting article are poor. Rick Lathrop

    Great Loop Jon Boat

Congratulations on the achievement, I second Steve's recommendation on Four Months in a Sneakbox. Another sneakbox voyage is F Slade Dale going from NY harbor to Miami in Sheldrake. That is written about in Yachting. https://archive.org/details/sim_yachting_1926-02_39_2

    BBSB Pond Box Build

SJ, On my build the bow piece is about an 1” to 1 1/2” solid oak. I made a mortise for the keelson to fit into so the bottom of the keelson rests against the frame. On the widgeon plans he has a profile drawing so you get an idea of what I am referring to. I worked from bow aft since the bow...

    BBSB Pond Box Build

SJ, I would try to sew. I am learning as I go putting together a Sailrite sail kit for the widgeon. Main learning point is that there is no dead line and it is ok to walk away and come back a day or two later. My sail will have imperfections but I am learning as I go. I use some scrap...

    Oarlocks and painting topside

Rich, Good tip. I thought of driving a drift and riveting over the head. I had no luck trying to peen the end despite heating. The rod would snap after a few hammer blows. This was plan B. If this fails you idea will be plan C. My only concern would be the glued in dowel preventing wood movement

    Oarlocks and painting topside

I decided to reinforce the oarlocks with brass rod due to concerns about a small split in the white oak oarlock on one side. I drilled and installed them on each side of the oarlock socket. Using a drill press I first drilled a counterbore using a forstner bit then the hole for the rods. I...

Anyone have photos of Sheldrake? 12’ sneakbox at Toms River Seaport. F Slade Dale sailed/motored from NY to Florida in it. Rick

Similar to an outer stem it saves having to cut a rabbet if you were using a harpin.

    Identify this BBSB

I agree it looks like a Bill Simonsen. I enjoy seeing the different photos. Many have made it into my folder of ideas for the Widgeon. I was just thinking about the prop for the oarlocks and here is perfect photo of the divot for the prop to fit into. Thank you for posting. Rick Lathrop

    BBSB Pond Box Build

Steve, Interesting approach. I have seen the bending form similar to that in the Rudder plans for building a sneakbox. SJ, Do you predrill prior to nailing? Overkill but I predrill prior to nailing to try to prevent splitting. Rick Lathrop

    BBSB Pond Box Build

SJ, I think the jink in the plans is due to the curvature of the bottom planking. In Widgeon he has mold 1 tapered to accommodate the bend. Also since the bow and the molds 1 & 2 are closer spaced you need to take into account the curvature of the bottom. The planksat the rear of the boat...

    BBSB Pond Box Build

Enjoying watching the build. Will you be using plastic nails to attach strips? Biggest issue I have with local mills for AWC is most don’t have lengths needed. I use Schaier Brothers Sawmill in Egg Harbor for my AWC needs.

SJ, Have you checked shipping with Chesapeake Light Craft in Annapolis? Shipping may not be as bad since you are in Connecticut. Rick
