    January "What's on your Workbench?"

Tonight I laid down the first coat of acrylpro and burlap. A second coat will go on tomorrow, then a few days to cure and then apoxie sculpt for the bill, tail, and wingtips and finally, paint and keel!

    Mud Box - maiden voyage

Those are awesome Tom!!! And to think, some people pay $200+ for a layout blind and another $100+ for the neoprene cover!!!! Now your ready to build a bigger one!

    January "What's on your Workbench?"

First off, thanks to all of the carvers on here for posting! You guys have some serious skills and are great motivators! I finally got around to trying out carving for the fist time ever! My references were Don Mintz's Foamer Method DVD and Mark Costilow's Diver book. I am using a homemade...

    The boys are growing fast!

I don't think I've posted pics of our new baby boy since he was born in March and now he's 9 months old! Braiden weighs in at 24lbs. and 31" long now! Mason, 6, just started on his first basketball team! I can't wait to share this crazy obsession of waterfowling with them!!! Here's...

    Rotary Tools...

Paul, would the drill press have enough rpm's for carving with a flexshaft?

    Rotary Tools...

Andy, the last time I was down that way was for work in Pullman about 2 years ago. Braiden (8mo. baby) has me pretty busy these days and Mason (6 years) just started basketball so I don't have much time, just a little here and there at home. Thanks so much for the offer though, sounds like fun!!!

    Rotary Tools...

Any carvers have experience with any of the cheaper rotary tools(dremel,B&D,ryobi,etc...) with a flexshaft attachment for carving? I would be using it to rough out foam blocks so I can't see spending the $ on a foredom or wecheer! I'm thinking about getting the Black&Decker RTX 3 speed...

    Exhaustive Study Finally Completed

That's too funny Al!!! I'm not superstitious, but I also always try to put out little family groups of 3, or 5, or 7. I have also always put a single hen out in front of the blind as my "caller." Don't know why, I just do it every time.

    A very enjoyable slow day

As always, thanks for posting Gary!!! That first picture is unbelievable! The colors seem to POP! 15 miles from your dock? Did you go all the way towards Long Lake Dam, or is that "classified"?

    Christmas Decoy

I like it Andy! Nice and simple. You ever make any miniature ones for ornaments?

    Built a bandsaw tonight...

Mike, I used gorilla glue. The only thing I know is that you just want a little dab in the middle of the block, otherwise you will be running into the glue while you carve. The foam is so soft and gorilla glue gets real hard so you may get frustrated trying to carve those areas where the two...

    Opinions Wanted on Plans

Wow, never seen that design before! Looks like it would work to me. Do you need/want a motor or is rowing ok? Devlin's Poleboat may be perfect for you if you don't mind rowing/poling.

    Built a bandsaw tonight...

Luke, I actually haven't started carving any foam yet. I ordered the Foam Decoy Carving Techniques DVD's from Don Mintz @ BodyLanguageDecoys! But yes, basically shaping the foam and then mastic and burlap and you can do the eyes, bills, wing tip, feather detail, tails, etc...using apoxie...

    Built a bandsaw tonight...

Well Dave, it's funny you should say that. We rigged it with bailing wire from my boat build and a 12volt battery charger just to test it. I will be swapping the wire out with a $3 NiChrome Hotwire from the hobby shop and using a 12v. power supply instead of the charger, possibly rigged up...

That sounds like a great idea Neal! I too am running out of space!

    Built a bandsaw tonight...

...a foam bandsaw that is! It all came from scrap stuff laying around the garage too! It's not quite perfected yet, but does the trick so far. This is my first attempt at handmade foamers other than my du mold so here goes nothin'!!!
