    1964 Gus Heinrichs Sr Speedbox

Capt. Bob & Steve, This boat reminds me of the Devlin Broadbill in terms of size. Do you think it would also plane with a 6 hp outboard? RM

Never going to kill another Elk like this again....

Will, Your story kind of reminded me of how I felt the first time I had mallards working my spread of decoys. After a lifetime of big game hunting, I totally lost it and never scratched a bird. But failure is like that, at least for me, in that it kind of energizes you to try again and do...

opinion needed on new old stock price adjustment for a tractor...

Tod, Check out Kubota before you purchase. We bought a smaller loader tractor w/snowblower attachment for our farm and it has performed well. Have heard many of the same complaints about John Deere which influenced our decision. RM

    2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

Tod, I probably went a little overboard on the rot issue. All interior surfaces of the boat, but especially the bilge, received several coats of penetrating epoxy followed by a couple coats of neat epoxy. The System Three penetrating epoxy really gets into every crevice and is super easy to...

    2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

Honestly I don't even know how a stitch and glue boat builder would manage the humidity in some areas of the country so as not to encapsulate alot of moisture in the plywood itself. Henry, Is it much drier there in the winter months or do you run a dehumidifier? RM

    2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

Henry, I love Tod's hatches, and given the complexity of a much bigger boat, may be the best solution. The reasoning behind my idea was to keep grit and sand from ever accumulating in the bilge in the first place but yet still be able to eliminate any water from condensation or leakage (God...

    Aging Ducks; Anyone Try This?

Wow! Aging game birds is alot more common place than I ever would have thought. Concerning duck sushi, it sounds delicious. Just last week Heather made Pho soup. It may be my favorite duck recipe yet. I can't even imagine how good it would be with a duck properly aged! RM

    Drones

For scouting with drones maybe institute a rule like Alaska has for fly in hunters which does not allow hunting the same day that you fly. Good idea for Alaska big game hunting but I haven't the slightest idea how it would be enforced for waterfowl. RM

    Drones

I don't have one but would like to share our experience with drones. My wife Heather and I moved from Fargo/Moorhead about fourteen years ago to our current residence outside of Detroit Lakes MN. Being from the city, or so our new neighbors thought, we were viewed with suspicion. One of our...

    Aging Ducks; Anyone Try This?

Great video. Strange, because while I have done this for years with venison, I have never given a thought to doing it with waterfowl or other birds. Next springs turkey will definitely be hung. RM

Who Hunts With A Black Powder Shotgun?

SJ, Dumb question perhaps, but it seems that the best way to get buy with less schoke on a black powder breech loading shotgun would be to use modern plastic shot cups? To make room for black powder, perhaps trimming off the collapsible portion with a razor? RM

To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

I was a Facebook member for about ten minutes. They said that I had like 500 friends. Knew that was a lie because I can count the number of true friends on one hand. RM

    Looking for a new boat

Mark, like myself, lives in Minnesota. The problem I have and I suspect Mark as well is alot of the duck hunting areas are walk in only for several hundred yards and then fighting your way through seventy five yards of cattails. It can be a bit much. Like Mark I am exploring several options. One...

    Atlantic Brant hunt

Interesting thread on Brant. I had never heard of eel grass so I did some digging. The problem sounds similar to the problems facing Minnesota lakes. Too much nutrients in the water whatever the source. In our area, alot of it stems from over fertilizing yards, cattail removal for a nice sandy...

    Who's out this morning?

SJ, Gunner had good reason to yelp. The same thing happened to me in northern Minnesota even though I religiously wear shooting glasses. Hurt like hell! We went to the ophthalmologist immediately and sure enough, a visible scratch on the cornea. You are a good dog dad for taking him to the vet...
