I need help starting my decoy collection

Chris: Lots of good advice. Definitely buy what you like! Consider WHY you are collecting, that will guide you in many ways. Personally I collect decoys from friends and acquaintances. I will rarely purchase a decoy from someone I have not met. I have several from friends that have now passed...

    Too Paint or Too Decal

I vote PAINT! Roll the base coat and then stencil on the camo pattern. Look around find a pattern you like. I used Lou's paint and shot it through a Paasche single action airbrush. That way you don't have to be restricted to what is available in spray cans.

    NDR - Reclaimed lumber furniture

I thought this was pretty interesting, if it doesn't belong, let me know and I'll delete it. I love to look at wood furniture. Personally I just don't have the capacity to be a woodworker, I'm envious of those that do! A customer who has, over the last few years, turned into a friend, makes...

    carving knife recommendation

Consider getting together with a carver (decoy maker?) that is in line with what you want to accomplish. He (she) can then give you pointers and advice in regards to equipment and techniques. This will save you from buying unnecessary and often useless tools. Barring that, contact Dave Lyons...

    Receiver hitch question

I noticed the same thing with my Dakota. Years ago I had a Ford Aerostar that had a hitch that fit like a machined part. My guess is that the close tolerance hitches became fused together when people left them in the receiver, especially in states that use salt on the roads. Once they rust...

    high gas prices survey

Considering the overall cost of an average waterfowl season, gas is WAY down the list of expenditures. Maybe a couple hundred dollars difference in the end. There are better ways to save money than to cut down on your hunting. Maybe ask you wife to cut down on her beauty parlor visits? Do her...

    off season sneakbox storage

That's why you put vents in it. With proper ventilation, there is no condensation. I must state that I have been shrink wrapping my own boats for about 20 years and I have more than recouped the cost of the equipment. The initial cost of equipment can be prohibitive. When I first started it was...

    off season sneakbox storage

Shrinkwrap it! I do all of my boats. It's like putting it in tupperware. Knock a couple vents in it and you get real good ventilation.

Chris: Ditto, Art's Gun Shop is THE BEST! I had a 49' Light 12 restored by them. Beautiful job. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any and all A5 repairs or mods.

November - Who's picking up your birds

I don't have any recent pics of his hunting prowess, because it's duck season and he's not a .........duck dog. Duke is now 2 and really hitting stride in the field. Just got him neutered this week, I think he hates me!

CAMO UP A BOAT AND IT LOOKS GOOD???

I used Lou's FME paints and some stencils. I'm happy with the results. This picture is before I finished the top deck, but the sides were finished. The base coat was Starcraft dead marsh grass, the second color was Nat Gear Grey and the cattails are a mix of the Starcraft and dark Brown. The...

    WWII Memorial - FDR Prayer

It's been a few years since we have visited DC, so I haven't seen the WWII memorial. When we were there, we came upon the Korean War Memorial by accident. Not taking anything away from any of the other memorials, I thought is was a powerful piece. To bad it doesn't get the recognition that the...

    Hen Redhead Paint for hunting

Here's a hen Bluebill I recently completed. I happen to like the results and I would probably do the same for a Redhead.
