The new IWCA website

Hi everyone, I wanted to make a post to let everyone know that I have taken on the role of the new IWCA webmaster and I've made a major update to the site. I know we've got a bunch of IWCA members here, but we've also got hunters, decoy fans, and some people that may have never heard of the organization. I thought everyone here might like to hear about the updates and check out the new site. You can see it at www.iwfca.com

My first order of business was to over-haul the site. It was a great site when it was first created, but it had gotten a little long in the tooth and needed an update. I've spent the last several weeks building up the new site and transferring most of the content from the old site. Last night I took the new site live.

My primary focus has been to simplify the navigation to make it easy to get to, what I consider, the most important content. That is news and updates, member show information, rules, contest results and photographs. I'm pretty excited about the new site and some of the features it will offer us.

Some of the coolest features of the new architecture are the ease in which you'll be able to keep updated on new content that's been added to the site. Most of the sections have a subscription feature that can feed updates directly to your computer, or to other websites and services on the internet. To take advantage of this feature, I've started an IWCA fanpage on facebook: www.facebook.com/iwfca as well as a twitter account @iwfca. If you simply "like" us on the facebook page, or follow us on twitter, you'll receive updates with a summary of the site update, along with a direct link to the site, on your wall or feed whenever news, photos, or contest results are posted. I've added links to the facebook page and twitter account on the new site as well.

Another section I'm pretty happy about is the show photos. I believe I've made it much cleaner and simpler to browse photos. I hope you agree. The new architecture also provides a much easier way for member shows to upload files and photographs directly to the site. I hope that this will result in more pictures for us all to enjoy, posted in a much timelier manner.

The rules are all posted section by section, and I've also provided .pdf files so you can print all of the current rules, or even print your own copy of the booklet instead of getting it mailed to you.

The shows all have their 2012 show details posted, and I'm currently reaching out to show representatives to make the individual show profiles and information more robust and interactive. I want this site to be a key source of accurate data and details regarding upcoming shows, as well promote the individual member shows' own websites. If you are one of the primary contacts at one of the member shows and I haven't talked to already, you can expect to be hearing from me soon.

I'm still making updates to the site every day and there is still some content I intend to move into the new site. You may notice not all of the articles are there and I've only added show photographs for the last two years. But I felt it was better to take the new site live now, with the critical features in place, and add new content as ongoing maintenance. In many ways the site will never really be "done" as I hope that all of us as an organization can work together to keep the content fresh.

So please, head on over to the new site and have a look around. www.iwfca.com. I'd love to hear your feedback on the navigation and usability of the site. You can use the contact page on the site or email me at: webmaster@iwfca.com

Enjoy the new site

Doug,
never checked the old site to have a reference to compare, but the new site is a good one. Gets to the meat easily and has good pictures.
Our site at work has evolved a lot. Pictures are key it seems. And having them move thru a slide show is a good thing.

As an aside that Core Sound site is loaded. Wish that show was closer.
