    IN Reach or PLB

This post got me thinking and I looked up the ACR PLBs, like everything the cost has gone up. They are over $400 now. I've had a couple, buying new ones when the battery "expired" (really expensive to get the battery replaced). This last time the battery expired I bought a new battery and...

    Glen-L Sneakboat vs Devlin Broadbill

My experience with having a lot of trouble hiding the snowgoose this fall has me looking the smaller boats. I don't know what direction I'll go, I think I will try a season with a modified field blind as a hide using the snowgoose for transport and then reevaluate. Would be fun to build one, but...

You are right on both counts, he may very well be better than halfway, maybe 9/16 even and yes that is some great workmanship. I believe that will be the nicest built and most customized Devlin duckboat we have seen.

You will get there, I have no doubt!

    IN Reach or PLB

ACR PLB for me, they are the industry standard and there is no plan, just buy the unit. One button to push in an oh shit moment. It is especially great now that I can text with satellite with my cell phone - a PLB when you need a rescue and you can text in a lesser situation.

    New Duck Boat Purchase!

38 pounds will be really nice, especially if that material is tough enough to do some dragging through the reeds/cattails/grass. The first thing that got me really excited was the camo interior, I really like that. Get some mud on it to tame the sheen and you will be styling.

    $4 a shell? Holy cow!

The bismuth in shot is in its metallic form, not bismuth subsalicylate. The form can be more important than the elements involved.

I will probably start with some sort of traditional bow in the the next couple years. I really like shooting a bow (compound) and miss it. I haven't seriously shot a traditional bow, but think I'd enjoy it and it sure would be easy to carry in the mountains. The crossbow definitely does not have...

I think that a decent percentage of people that use horses to access the backcountry to archery hunt would say that going out into the ocean to hunt ducks in a small boat is a ballsy ploy.

Will want to have it on a horse both uncocked and cocked. I wouldn't hunt from the horse, but would for sure want to be able to jump off and head after elk without cocking. I really wouldn't want it on my back on the horse, you don't want any extra weight on your back to mess up your balance in...

Thanks Dave, lotta good info there. The shock isn't recoil, it is like you hit a piece of steel with a big hammer, it resonates. Think about how inefficient the recurve limbs are, to get 400+ fps there has to be a lot of energy there getting released. In the end, with a flemish string, heavy...

Thanks Dave, the performance you are getting is similar to what I'm getting and I'd be happy with what you describe for sure (my crossbow is a tackdriver as well - a little faster 440 with light bolts and 390 with my current very heavy arrows). I would like a more compact package so very...

    Long line weight ideas

Agreed on the pyramid. If I didn't have a bunch of cast lead mushrooms, that is the direction I'd go. As you pointed out they work great for drift anchors, the one in my pic is 17 pounds and I made the mold out of plywood and caulked with clear silicone. I could have gotten a bunch out of that...

How has that crossbow been treating you? I really like the accuracy, speed and how simple my excalibur is, but I'm looking for something more compact. A full size recurve crossbow is just a really large beast to carry around. How is it for going through strings?

    Long line weight ideas

Cast lead mushrooms using a lead pot and screw eye or the small size claw anchors (cabelas has 2.2 pounders for less than 20) either holds better than a non anchor shape like a dumbbell or sash weight.

    Glen-L Sneakboat vs Devlin Broadbill

I'm pretty sure the Glen-L is ply on frames. If I remember right there are longitudinals between the stations to stiffen it up for the thin ply. All the boats in that class are pretty heavy, it is just hard to build them any lighter. I'd want to trailer one since I'd have a hard time getting...
