2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

Thanks, though I can't really take credit. Pretty sure Tod did something similar. But I do a stunning job of copying good ideas.
That Tod IS a smart guy. One question I always wanted to ask is how you planned your interior layout. Just a compilation of good ideas from factory boats?

Not sure I want to go that far, but he is at least smarter than most of the rest of us. Not sure a bunch of guys who choose to get up at o'dark-thirty to brave freezing weather for the possibility of a few ounces of duck meat set the bar real high, though.

As to interior layout, a combination of reading everything I can here on what worked/didn't work for others and trying to think through how I work best. I'm certain there will be things I wish I'd done differently once I finish (and I'm still tweaking here and there), but I'm increasingly confident it will work for me. And I know who to blame when it doesn't.

Halfway or better, your workmanship is great. I would think one more solid push and you'll be on the home stretch. (y)

You are right on both counts, he may very well be better than halfway, maybe 9/16 even and yes that is some great workmanship. I believe that will be the nicest built and most customized Devlin duckboat we have seen.

I have a better understanding now, Tod, of your completion % comments. The work definitely slows down working on the "little things". Hatch cover supports finished, fitted, and epoxied in place, including some RE magnets on the corners (matching magnets in the hatch covers). Keelsons notched and sole pieces dry fit. Will get a final coat of epoxy on the inside bottom and debating a coat of white gloss paint there and on the underside of the sole pieces, just to make it easier to keep clean and to spy any problems under there, before I do final install of the sole.

Henry,
Do you have carlins for the underside of the sole for attaching the sole sections? Obviously for something to screw into but more importantly, to keep your epoxy from sagging out of the seam? To my way of thinking they would be fitted to each side if the stringer/bulkhead. RM

The sole sections mate at (over) the bulkheads, so they have those bulkheads for support. With the sole pieces epoxied to the keelsons, bulkheads, and each other, I think it should perform as a single, bonded sole. When doing the final install, I'll temporarily screw the sole pieces to the keelsons fore and aft of the hatches to ensure good bonding sole-to keelson.

It would certainly be easy to add a couple strips on the fore and aft sides of the bulkheads if there would be value to a little additional support.

Henry,
Uncharted territory for me as well, I just thought back to when I sheatrocked our basement, I was advised to always attach an edge of sheatrock to something solid so the joint is stable after you tape and texture it. Envision an I-beam beneath the sole.
