DNR Rescues Duck Hunters From River

Rope-a-long and a long piece of blue steel. Would have to thaw it out, maybe tarp it and a heater?!?!?

Abusive like calling out someone's salary trying to shame them? Which is funny because I don't think you know what you don't know. It actually didn't start with a rant from me (look up the definition of rant). I posted a screen pic and mused in a non-ranting way that I found CEO pay hard to...

DNR Rescues Duck Hunters From River

Seems a pretty straightforward salvage job. Hope they get it back. I was in some pretty serious ice this year, hate messing with too much of it and I'm not going near it in flowing water like that.

Learn how to properly quote someone to indicate who you are talking to. I'll assume you mean me, so I'll respond... I'm living my life, trust me. Pure as fuck.

    2025 Devlin Snow Goose Thread

It is common for water to "magically" appear within chambers. I believe that every Devlin designed boat that has ever appeared here over the past 20 years with significant rot damage has been linked to water infiltration inside chambers. In the old days when making them sealed was the standard I...

I get it you like the social aspects and don't like to be alone and don't care to muck around doing it from scratch. You are missing most of the experience doing it that way. To do the prep and clean up is part of hunting. In my experience the prep is the most important part and you are not...

I agree and I think what you are describing fits under the broader heading of being entitled. They want something so they think they deserve it and writing a check is easier than doing the work. Saw you mention earlier in the year the hundreds of miles you put on to find a specific pod of birds...

Yes, you follow a guide around that has local knowledge having pre scouted the area or has hunted the area in previous years, or had their master guide hunt the area for years before and tell them where to hunt. That guide got you to the area, booked you bush flight if needed. The guide usually...

Something can be harsh and true at the same time. I can make as nuanced an argument as you wish. For example, I have hunted Alaska for big game my myself. Would a comparison of what it took to put myself in the position to be successful compared to a guided hunter be instructive? I'm happy to...

If you cannot see the difference between paying someone for success and working for success yourself the problem is yours not mine. You can try to tell the tale that paying a guide to tell you what to bring, to carry your gear, to feed you, to house you and take you to the animals is hunting...

Getting a boat off a trailer

 As much time as I spent building that thing, I'm pretty careful with risking destroying it. I beat the crap out of it, but I can fix that. A 2 foot drop on concrete, I'm not sure what the outcome would be.

Getting a boat off a trailer

I've never tied it to a tree, but can see the benefit. When I'm doing it as described the boat is basically off the trailer hovering above the trailer by a tiny bit. I'm just walking the trailer out and maybe adjusting here and there to get clearance. Definitely on the gentle end rather than...

Agree, they do fine work with the money they actually spend towards buying and managing land. I started this discussion thinking that CEO compensation was an interesting issue and something that I have a hard time understanding/swallowing, but it is good to be reminded what other people have a...

Getting a boat off a trailer

Done it several times. I didn't see this mentioned, but to get the boat off first lower the tongue all the way on to the ground, this has the ass end of the boat as high into the air as possible. Block the rear of the boat with the ass high (use shims to have the blocking tight to the hull) and...

We aren't talking about bad egg guides, we are talking about the guide industry having a disproportionate impact on a shared resource. Many folks do better when they are with a guide because guides are professionals trained to extract resources. They direct effort into the the best areas and...

No Name Scull Boat Build......update........ We named her the Double Nickel.........

As much as I like Stitch and Glue and building your own boat, for a scull I'd buy one. There are some great ones out there, if I wanted a great boat, I'd start asking around to try to find one from someone aging out of the sport. They are just very specialized hulls.
